Electrical Educator/Technical Assistant / Construction Code Representative 2

Overview The Electrical Educator/Technical Assistant position supports statewide consistency and understanding of Minnesota statutes, rules, the Minnesota Electrical Act, and all adopted electrical codes by providing educational, technical, and administrative assistance. The position helps develop and deliver training materials, guidance documents, and outreach resources to ensure electricians, contractors, inspectors, and stakeholders clearly understand code requirements and the scope of work allowed by law. It serves as a technical resource by researching code questions, preparing authoritative interpretations under the direction of senior staff, and assisting in the review of licensing and inspection-related information. The position contributes to public safety by promoting accurate, uniform application of electrical standards, supporting internal training initiatives, and assisting with documentation, data review, and other duties as assigned. This position is remote and will work from a home or DLI office location within the state of Minnesota. Responsibilities Provide educational, technical, and administrative assistance related to the Minnesota Electrical Act and adopted electrical codes. Develop and deliver training materials, guidance documents, and outreach resources for electricians, contractors, inspectors, and stakeholders. Research code‑related questions and prepare written guidance. Assist in the review of licensing and inspection‑related information. Support public safety by promoting accurate, uniform application of electrical standards. Assist with documentation, data review, and other duties as assigned. Plan and deliver outreach events, presentations, and information sessions. Create, develop, and present educational content to support consistent understanding of the Minnesota Electrical Act, adopted electrical codes, and licensing requirements. Minimum Qualifications Must be licensed by the State of Minnesota as a Master or Journeyworker Electrician. Four (4) years’ experience providing education or serving as a subject matter expert on the Minnesota Electrical Act requirements, inspections techniques and best practices in construction. Ability to provide technical assistance by researching code‑related questions, preparing written guidance and assisting with the development of formal interpretations of the Minnesota electrical Act and adopted electrical codes. Skill to create, develop and present educational content to support consistent understanding of the Minnesota Electrical Act, adopted electrical codes and licensing requirements. Skill in planning and delivering outreach events, presentations and information sessions for contractors, electricians, educators and industry associations. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who may not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or common experiences. Preferred Qualifications Strong understanding of state, local and federal regulatory functions to correctly address code‑related matters affecting regulators and constituents at these levels of government. General knowledge of all phases of building construction to provide competent technical consultation or on‑site evaluation services to division clientele in matters of structural, electrical, plumbing and heating systems, building material properties; principles of engineering; building manufacturing procedures; operation of inspection or approval agencies; objectives of quality control procedures. Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL). Additional Requirements All final candidates must submit to a background investigation prior to employment.
