HIV Prevention Specialist - Department of InternalMedicine Wayne State University is searching for an experienced HIVPrevention Specialist - Department of Internal Medicine at itsDetroit campus location. Essential functions (job duties): Job Purpose: Coordinates the grant funded Human Immunodeficiency Virus test sitefor the Wayne State University Adult Human Immunodeficiency VirusProgram under the direction of the Psychosocial Team Leader. Servesas a patient advocate/non-medical case manager, for thepsychosocial team. Reports to Supervisor. Essential Functions: Serves as a patient advocate/non-medical case manager for thepsychosocial team. Enrolls eligible patients and maintains patientsin the Ryan White program. Assesses patients for barriers to caresuch as issues with health insurance, transportation, housing andfood insecurity. In collaboration with other members of thepsychosocial team, assesses patients for unmet behavioral healthneeds. Directly assists patients with barriers and/or linkspatients with formal case management within the Wayne StateUniversity Human Immunodeficiency Virus Prevention program or atcommunity agencies. Provides health education counseling and riskreduction strategies to project participants. Documents assessments and advocacy/non-medical case managementinterventions in the medical record and in the Ryan White reportingsystem. Serves as key contact/liaison HIV testing and other relatedactivities. Obtains testing approval; coordinates and conductsHuman Immunodeficiency Virus finger stick testing. Ensuresdocumentation regarding test clients is complete, ensures thatdocumentation of services is included in the medical record forclinic patients, and enters data on test clients and results intothe state reporting system. Links positive test clients and patients with disease interventionspecialists for Partner Services. Prepares counseling, testing andreferral supplies, forms, packets and educational materials andcoordinates distribution of prevention supplies. Ensures trainedCounseling, Testing and Referral staff are educated on new testingprocedures and maintains record of staff Counseling, Testing, andReferral certification. Maintains certification in Human Immunodeficiency Virus testcounseling and performance point of service testing. Maintainsknowledge base regarding insurance access and Ryan White policiesand procedures regarding non-medical case management, healtheducation and risk reduction, psychosocial support, insuranceaccess and partner services. Participates in ongoing training incounseling skills and cultural sensitivity provided or arranged bythe program. Organizes and participates with community outreach efforts, specialevents, and other health promotion initiatives. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, sociology,counseling or related field from an accredited college oruniversity. Two or more years' experience as a test counselorproviding Human Immunodeficiency Virus support services to clientsmay be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-relatedexperience) Two or more years experience working in a public health or clinicalsetting coordinating HIV prevention programs and services. Mustobtain state-sponsored Human Immunodeficiency Virus preventioncounseling and testing training/certification within 3 months ofhire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Can apply effective interpersonal skills to provide service. Canrespond effectively to most sensitive inquiries orcomplaints. Self-Directed and able to make decisions and organize work. Can prioritize and plan work activities. Can adapt for changingconditions. Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpectedevents. Ability to facilitate training sessions and prepare project sitereviews or audits. Ability to provide services to gay, lesbian,bisexual and transgender clients. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
