Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse, Behavioral Health – Virginia

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Northern Virginia

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: 3x12-hour day shifts; 13-week assignment with 24 hours of orientation; weekend coverage required (8 weekend shifts per contract)

Highlights:

• Inpatient behavioral health unit serving adult and geriatric populations with a daily census of 13 patients across 18 beds
• 6:1 patient-to-nurse ratio with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response teams
• Diverse case mix including anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, substance use, suicidal ideation, trauma-related disorders, and personality disorders
• Specialized unit protocols including Q15-minute patient rounding, de-escalation techniques, seclusion room management, and physical hold protocols
• Smoke/nicotine-free facility; EMR training provided during orientation with options based on experience level
• Minimum time-off requests preferred to ensure continuity of care; any requests must be submitted with initial application

Requirements:

• Active Virginia RN license (must be in hand at time of application)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• BLS and MOAB (Managing Assaultive Behavior) certifications required
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Community hospital, LTAC, Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
• COVID-19 vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered per CMS guidelines)
• Flu vaccine required during flu season, October 1 – March 31 (medical exemptions only)
• Competency in psychiatric medication administration including antipsychotics, antidepressants, antianxiety agents, mood stabilizers, and sedatives
• Experience with crisis intervention, behavior management, de-escalation techniques, and managing self-injurious and suicidal behaviors
• Proficiency in general medical skills including IV starts and maintenance, blood glucose monitoring, Foley catheter management, NG tube management, and oral/nasotracheal suctioning
