GENERAL SUMMARY

The Weld & Assembly Team Leader is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership and production support within assigned welding and assembly operations. This position works directly with production associates to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality, production, and standardized work requirements.

The Team Leader is a working leadership position responsible for coordinating manpower, monitoring production performance, supporting equipment and process issues, training and coaching associates, maintaining standardized work, and escalating conditions that may affect Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, or Cost.

As a 3rd-shift floor leader, this position is expected to maintain a strong presence in the production area, respond to issues as they occur, make appropriate decisions within the authority of the position, and communicate unresolved concerns to the appropriate leadership and support departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide daily floor leadership and direction to associates within assigned welding and assembly operations.
• Ensure associates follow established safety requirements, standardized work, quality standards, work instructions, and production procedures.
• Coordinate daily manpower assignments based on production requirements, associate qualifications, attendance, and operational priorities.
• Verify associates are properly trained and qualified before assigning them to equipment or processes.
• Monitor production throughout the shift to ensure scheduled production requirements are achieved.
• Review production performance, cycle times, downtime, scrap, quality concerns, and other operating conditions throughout the shift.
• Respond promptly to production abnormalities and escalate equipment, quality, material, manpower, or process concerns when additional support is required.
• Work closely with Weld Technicians, Maintenance, Quality, Material Handling, and other support functions to minimize production interruptions.
• Support troubleshooting of robotic weld cells, automated assembly equipment, fixtures, tooling, and production processes within the scope of Team Leader training and responsibility.
• Ensure equipment problems are communicated promptly and appropriate technical resources are contacted when required.
• Verify proper start-up, changeover, and shutdown procedures are followed.
• Support efficient job and model changeovers while maintaining required safety and quality standards.
• Monitor parts and processes for compliance with established quality requirements.
• Ensure required inspections, checks, testing, documentation, and production records are completed accurately and at the required frequency.
• Immediately respond to suspected nonconforming product and ensure appropriate containment and escalation procedures are followed.
• Ensure suspect or nonconforming material is properly identified, segregated, and controlled.
• Work with Quality personnel to investigate and resolve product and process concerns.
• Assist with containment, sorting, reinspection, and corrective actions when required.
• Train, coach, and provide ongoing direction to production associates regarding standardized work, safety, quality, productivity, and job expectations.
• Reinforce proper work methods and correct deviations from established standards.
• Identify associates requiring additional training or coaching and communicate those needs to appropriate leadership.
• Support cross-training and development of associates to improve flexibility and coverage within the department.
• Monitor attendance and promptly communicate manpower or attendance concerns.
• Ensure breaks, lunches, rotations, and relief are coordinated to support production requirements.
• Maintain an active presence on the production floor and routinely verify conditions at assigned work areas.
• Promote accountability while maintaining professional and respectful working relationships with associates.
• Ensure production areas, equipment, workstations, aisles, and material locations are maintained in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Support 5S, workplace organization, and continuous improvement activities.
• Identify opportunities to reduce downtime, scrap, rework, unnecessary motion, material handling, and other forms of waste.
• Participate in problem-solving and root-cause activities involving safety, quality, equipment, and production concerns.
• Ensure required production, quality, downtime, scrap, and other shift documentation is completed accurately and timely.
• Communicate significant events, open issues, temporary countermeasures, equipment conditions, quality concerns, and production status during shift handoff.
• Escalate issues that cannot be resolved during the shift rather than allowing problems to continue without appropriate action.
• Support overtime and alternate work schedules when required to meet production and customer needs.
• Perform production work and provide relief or coverage when necessary while maintaining overall Team Leader responsibilities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety is a primary responsibility of the Weld & Assembly Team Leader.

The Team Leader must:

• Ensure associates follow all established safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
• Reinforce proper use of required personal protective equipment.
• Ensure machine guarding, light curtains, interlocks, emergency stops, and other safety devices are properly used and never bypassed or defeated.
• Immediately address unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
• Stop work or equipment when an immediate safety risk exists and escalate the condition appropriately.
• Ensure associates follow applicable Lockout/Tagout requirements and never perform work for which they are not properly trained or authorized.
• Maintain awareness of hazards associated with robotic weld cells, automated equipment, welding operations, material handling, and moving machinery.
• Participate in safety investigations and corrective actions as required.
• Encourage associates to identify and report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Maintain good housekeeping and clear access to emergency equipment, exits, aisles, and work areas.

QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Team Leader is responsible for reinforcing quality at the source and ensuring established quality controls are followed throughout the shift.

Responsibilities include:

• Ensure associates understand and follow applicable Control Plans, standardized work, work instructions, visual standards, inspection requirements, and quality alerts.
• Verify required inspections and quality checks are completed at the specified frequency.
• Ensure production associates understand applicable defect criteria and escalation requirements.
• Respond immediately when a quality abnormality is identified.
• Ensure suspect product is contained and controlled until proper disposition is determined.
• Support Quality personnel during investigation, containment, and corrective-action activities.
• Monitor recurring scrap, rework, weld, fit-up, dimensional, or assembly concerns and escalate trends appropriately.
• Ensure process settings or equipment adjustments are not changed outside established authorization requirements.
• Support prevention of nonconforming product from advancing to the next operation or customer.

PRODUCTION & LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

The Team Leader is expected to understand the condition of the assigned production area throughout the shift, including:

• Manpower and attendance.
• Production schedule and priorities.
• Production attainment versus plan.
• Equipment status and downtime.
• Quality concerns and containment activity.
• Scrap and rework.
• Material availability.
• Associate training and qualification.
• Safety concerns.
• Open maintenance or technical issues.
• Required follow-up for the incoming shift.

The Team Leader is expected to identify abnormalities early and take appropriate action rather than waiting until the end of the shift to report missed production or unresolved issues.
