Lead Distribution Engineer

Position Overview Leidos is seeking a Lead Distribution Engineer in the Denver, CO area who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. The role focuses on ensuring every project, simple or complex, is of exceptional quality. The engineer works directly with clients to maintain Leidos' reputation for high‑quality work and gains expertise in NESC, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design training, field data collection, and client design standards. The position is hybrid: 3 days per week in the office collaborating with internal teams and 2 days per week remote. Responsibilities Lead the development of electrical distribution work packages; perform engineering design and analysis; potentially work on programmatic/capital/reliability design (e.g., 3rd‑party attachment, Make Ready, overloaded transformers, reconductor, voltage conversion, DG, FLISR, underground, etc.). Be responsible for QA/QC tasks on your assigned team and review your team's designs prior to client submittals. Review engineering design packages with clients and organize existing program work. Analyze scope of work, maintain schedule adherence, and advocate client priorities. Interact directly with clients on a frequent, as‑needed basis. Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable standards are met. Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements; assist with work‑permit development, easements, and ROW applications. Be comfortable in both a field and office setting; occasional on‑site visits may be required for field data collection. In the future, assist in the hiring process for your team. Qualifications 4+ years of experience on electric distribution projects in a consulting environment for utilities or at an electric utility. Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC). Experience with engineering design quality control. Familiarity with pole‑loading software (e.g., O‑Calc, Pole Foreman) and distribution pole analysis. Ability to use a personal vehicle; customer‑related travel may be required (travel reimbursed at IRS‑approved rates). Willingness to perform field and office work; ability to work outdoors on occasion. Valid U.S. driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications EIT certification. Previous QA/QC experience. Experience estimating costs, developing BOMs, calculating CIAC. Demonstrated history of customer interaction. Proficiency with STORMS software and GIS. Prior leadership experience.
