Low-Voltage Technician — Security, Fire Alarm, CCTV & Access Control

APS Security Systems is seeking a dependable, skilled Low-Voltage Technician to join our growing commercial installation team in Miami, Florida.

This role performs installation, troubleshooting, testing, and service work for commercial low-voltage systems, including CCTV surveillance, access control, fire alarm, structured cabling, network infrastructure, intrusion detection, intercom, and related security technologies.

The right candidate takes pride in clean, professional installations, can work independently or as part of a crew, reads drawings, follows project requirements, and communicates effectively with supervisors, customers, and other trades.

There will be opportunities to work on prevailing-wage / Davis-Bacon projects throughout the year , depending on awarded work and project schedules. Pay for qualifying Davis-Bacon work will be based on the applicable project wage determination, work classification, and fringe-benefit requirements.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, label, test, troubleshoot, and service low-voltage cabling and equipment.
• Install commercial CCTV cameras, NVR/VMS equipment, PoE switches, racks, monitors, and related network-connected devices.
• Install access-control systems, including readers, controllers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, power supplies, electric strikes, maglocks, electrified hardware, and associated cabling.
• Assist with installation, testing, troubleshooting, and service of fire alarm systems, including panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, modules, annunciators, and communication equipment.
• Pull, dress, label, and test Cat5e, Cat6, fiber, composite, security, fire alarm, and control cabling.
• Install pathways, J-hooks, cable tray, conduit, sleeves, surface raceway, supports, and firestopping as required by project scope and code.
• Read and follow plans, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, device schedules, shop drawings, and work tickets.
• Perform device testing, continuity checks, cable certification, basic troubleshooting, and commissioning support.
• Coordinate with lead technicians, project managers, electricians, general contractors, and other trades to resolve field conditions.
• Maintain clean work areas, accurate daily reports, time records, material usage, and redline/as-built information.
• Follow company safety procedures, jobsite safety requirements, PPE requirements, and customer/site access procedures.
• Operate company tools, lifts, ladders, and jobsite equipment safely when qualified and authorized.
• Travel locally throughout South Florida and occasionally outside the area if project needs require it.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of commercial low-voltage installation experience preferred.
• Experience with one or more of the following is required: CCTV, access control, structured cabling, fire alarm, intrusion, intercom, networking, or AV systems.
• Ability to pull and terminate low-voltage cable, read plans, use hand and power tools, and troubleshoot basic wiring and equipment issues.
• Experience with commercial construction sites, renovations, tenant build-outs, multifamily, schools, warehouses, retail, office, healthcare, or government work is preferred.
• Fire alarm experience, Florida Alarm Agent registration, ES license, NICET certification, manufacturer certifications, or access-control/CCTV certifications are a plus.
• Ability to work from ladders, lifts, ceilings, attics, mechanical areas, and active construction environments.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass background screening and meet jobsite, client, or government-project access requirements when applicable.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Reliable attendance, professional appearance, good communication, and strong attention to installation quality.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
