Corrections Mental Health Counselor 3 - MCC

Position Overview The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Corrections Mental Health Counselor 3 for the Monroe Correctional Complex located in Monroe, WA just outside Seattle. The position reports to a Psychology Associate and is clinically supervised by the lead unit Psychologist. Schedule Monday – Friday 12:30 pm – 9:00 pm (12:30–21:00). Work performed onsite. Responsibilities Provide mental health counseling services, including individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, mental health unit rounds, clinical case management, and mental health assessment, with clinical supervision and approval. Provide emergent mental health coverage as directed and coordinate care in the Close Observation Area when patients are placed there. Document and plan treatment: observe, interview, collect data, and manage patient caseload; ensure timely and accurate reporting and documentation using OMNI data, typed reports, or legible handwritten reports filed in medical charts. Complete Mental Health Encounter Reports, Mental Health Appraisals, Mental Health Updates, Suicide Risk Assessments, Safety Plans, and crisis documentation in accordance with policy. Facilitate and monitor individualized Mental Health Treatment Plans in collaboration with the clinical supervisor. Attend and actively participate in clinical and administrative supervision meetings and case consultations with other DOC staff. Coordinate and facilitate transition and release needs of incarcerated individuals with outside agencies and community services in conjunction with reentry/release staff. Participate in trainings, involuntary antipsychotic medication hearings, and other duties as assigned; provide informal education to staff and inmates on mental health promotion. Required Qualifications Certified Agency Affiliated Counselor (CAAC). Must apply for CAAC within 30 days of hire. Additional consideration may be given for higher-level Department of Health Mental Health licenses. Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program or master’s degree in psychology with two years of supervised, post‑master’s experience. At least one year of experience providing individual and group therapies independently and effectively. Experience linking clients to resources within institutions and/or the community. Experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Independently held license to practice mental health throughout Washington Department of Health, active with no conditions. Valid proof of a baseline TB skin test may be required within 60 days of hire; positive results will require further testing and treatment. Foreign equivalent degrees awarded outside the U.S. must include a credential evaluation report. All positions require work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship.
