Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (645 AM - 715 PM) Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care RN experience, with at least 1 year of Labor and Delivery RN experience License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, EFM Must-Have: - Epic experience - Experience in acute care nursing - Patient assessment skills - Plan of care development - Clinical intervention monitoring - Patient and family education Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care, the RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff. Job Responsibilities: Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition. Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care. Reviews and revises the plan as indicated. Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services. Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patient, and family. Evaluation: Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions. Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs. Ensures education is appropriate to the care, treatment, and services provided during their stay and at discharge. Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Functions as a mentor/preceptor. Demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork. Identifies and appropriately communicates opportunities for improvement. Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts and implements practice changes. Complies with regulatory standards and participates in the Practice Governance model. Is knowledgeable about activities that facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration. Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively utilizes communication systems. Participates in promoting cost-effective care. Provides feedback to co-workers. Is aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment. Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all. Patient Assessment: Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Includes appropriate physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs. Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful insights prior to communication to others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs. Planning: Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care. Makes use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care. Begins to utilize a full range of communication to convey planning. Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Research: Reads journals that contain studies or articles applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
