Production Manager

Position Overview
The Production Manager will lead day-to-day manufacturing operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production of food products. This role is responsible for meeting production targets, driving continuous improvement, maintaining compliance with food safety and regulatory standards, and coordinating cross-functional teams to optimize throughput and reduce costs.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and supervise daily production activities to meet volume, quality and schedule targets.
• Coordinate resources including personnel, equipment and materials to maximize machine uptime and production flow.
• Implement and monitor food safety (HACCP/FSMA) and quality assurance procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
• Lead, coach and develop production staff; manage staffing levels, shift planning and performance evaluations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce waste, improve yield and lower operating costs.
• Monitor production metrics and KPIs; prepare and present regular reports on performance, downtime, yield and quality to senior management.
• Manage maintenance coordination and problem resolution to minimize downtime, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with procurement, engineering, quality and R&D teams on process changes, new product introductions and packaging transitions.
• Enforce health and safety standards and promote a culture of safe work practices on the plant floor.
• Control production costs through efficient resource management and by identifying opportunities for process optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Food Science, Engineering, Manufacturing Management or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of experience in food manufacturing or related production environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of food safety systems and regulatory requirements (HACCP, FSMA, GMP).
• Demonstrated experience with Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
• Six Sigma training or certification (Yellow/Green/Black Belt) preferred.
• Proven ability to analyze production metrics, conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Excellent leadership, communication and team-building skills with experience managing multi-shift teams.
• Proficient with production planning, ERP/MRP systems and common manufacturing software.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, prioritize tasks and manage change effectively.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality, with a track record of improving operational performance.
