Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a high-acuity Cardiac PCU/Telemetry position requiring strong cardiac drip experience and telemetry interpretation skills.

Details

• PCU unit within a hospital, heavily cardiac-focused
• Patient population includes heart failure, A-fib, A-flutter, SVT, VTach, VFib, FVO, chest pain, HTN, heart transplant, congenital heart disease, and LVAD patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, sometimes 1:5
• High patient acuity with frequent admissions/discharges and significant procedural volume
• Common procedures include right & left heart catheterizations, TR band management, sheath removal/management, stent placement, valve replacement, STEMI/NSTEMI care, pacemakers, ICDs, cardioversions, ablations, and groin site management
• No ventilator patients on this unit
• NOC shift, 3x12s, 36 hours per week
• No on-call requirements
• Floating to similar cardiac/PCU units may be required, but not to Cardiac Monitor Tech roles
• EPIC EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 18 months of recent cardiac unit experience
• Must independently interpret cardiac rhythms and pass a proctored, paper-based Dysrhythmia Exam using calipers on the first attempt, with no tech assistance or remediation
• Required experience with cardiac drips: insulin, milrinone, dobutamine, amiodarone, heparin, lasix, and nitroglycerin
• Chest tube experience required
• Must rate a "4" on all cardiac skills on the skills checklist
• Heart transplant and LVAD experience preferred, with training available if needed

Additional Information

• Provide high-acuity cardiac nursing care within a PCU setting
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Former Emory or Houston perm staff must be separated for 1 year before returning to the health system, or 18 months if returning to the same facility
• Strict RTO policies apply, with reduced allowances around holidays
• Holiday coverage expectations apply per facility policy
