About the Role
Client is seeking a Commodity Market Risk Technical Manager to support market risk analytics, quantitative modeling, risk reporting, and commodity transaction analysis across power, natural gas, and commodity trading businesses.
This role will work closely with traders, marketers, senior leadership, treasury, finance, and governance teams to provide risk insights and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Value-at-Risk (VaR) calculations and risk analysis.
- Conduct stress testing, scenario analysis, and quantitative assessments.
- Analyze new commodity transactions and portfolio restructuring opportunities.
- Develop and enhance risk reporting tools using Python and Power BI.
- Build dashboards, visualizations, and automated reporting solutions.
- Support Gross Margin at Risk (GMaR) reporting and analysis.
- Collaborate with commercial traders and marketers across power and natural gas markets.
- Lead small projects and drive process improvements.
- Support commodity pricing, valuation, and market fundamentals analysis.
- Communicate risk metrics and business impacts to senior leadership, Treasury, and Finance teams.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in Commodity Market Risk, Product Control, Quantitative Risk, or Trading Risk.
- Strong experience with:
- Value-at-Risk (VaR)
- Stress Testing
- Scenario Analysis
- Risk Reporting
- Commodity experience in:
- Power Markets (preferred)
- Natural Gas Markets
- Crude Oil Markets
- Advanced Python programming skills.
- Experience with Power BI reporting and visualization tools.
- Knowledge of commodity pricing, valuation, and market fundamentals.
- Experience working with traders, marketers, and commercial teams.
- Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- OpenLink Endur or other ETRM system experience.
- Knowledge of North American Power Markets (PJM, ERCOT, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, SPP, IESO, AESO).
- Banking or investment banking experience supporting commodity businesses.
- Experience with power generation assets and commodity transaction structuring.
- Understanding of Gross Margin at Risk (GMaR) methodologies.
