Respiratory Therapist

Job Description PeaceHealth is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a Full Time, 0.90 FTE, Night position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $41.67 – $58.31. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc. Job Summary Cares for the cardio‑pulmonary needs of all assigned patients, from those undergoing routine diagnostic procedures to those requiring complex critical care, intervention, and transport support. The work requires a team‑focused approach, collaborating with all members of the healthcare team to achieve optimal patient and organizational outcomes. Essential Functions Provides respiratory care, including diagnostic testing, oxygen and medication delivery, bronchial hygiene, arterial/capillary blood gas draw and analysis, advanced airway management, and life support. Conducts patient assessment, monitors labs, hemodynamics, and radiology findings; develops, implements, and evaluates individualized patient care plans appropriate to age. Calibrates, cleans, sets up, maintains, and troubleshoots all patient‑related equipment and instruments; assembles and stores cleaned equipment. Participates in in‑house educational in‑services, intra‑departmental and interdisciplinary seminars, and external workshops as requested by Manager. Engages in intermittent department tasks, including audits, quality assurance, statistical record keeping, patient charting, and special projects as specified by Manager. Acts as a member of trauma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and rapid response teams when required. Manages ventilators and non‑invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV), ensuring safe, evidence‑based settings with appropriate adjustments. May receive training to become a core therapist in an ICU or diagnostics area (e.g., PFT or Sleep Lab) to meet departmental needs. Performs other duties as assigned. Details of the Position Accredited Program Required: 2‑year AMA‑approved Respiratory Care Program or approved alternative education per state regulatory requirements. Must pass the NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist exam within 6 months of hire. Minimum of 2 years preferred experience in acute care as a Respiratory Therapist. Minimum of 1 year preferred experience in a pulmonary function laboratory. Preferred experience in ICU, Pediatrics, or Obstetrics. Respiratory Care Practitioner license required (Oregon). Baseline requirement: within 6 months registered as a Respiratory Therapist. Basic Life Support certification required. ACLS must be obtained within the standard grace period from hire or transfer, or upon hire. NRP certification must be obtained within the standard grace period from hire or transfer, or upon hire. PALS certification must be obtained within the standard grace period from hire or transfer, or upon hire. RRT required at time of hire for graduates whose program completion exceeds 1 year. Temporary licensure acceptable for new hires; permanent licensure must be obtained before the temporary license expires (6 months). No renewal of temporary license. Employment contingent upon obtaining permanent licensure per OAR 331 Division 30. Skills Proficient with MS Office applications. (Required) Ability to set up, operate, and troubleshoot all respiratory or pulmonary function equipment quickly and efficiently. (Required) Ability to assess acute, critical care situations rapidly and respond decisively. (Required) Strong time‑management skills. (Required) Working Conditions Physical Demands Patient handling—no greater than 35 lbs. without assistive equipment (NIOSH). Fine motor skill requirement for grasping and controlling medical equipment and performing precise procedures. Occasional walking, occasional sitting, occasional lifting (non‑patient) and carrying up to 25 lbs. Occasional push/pull of 1–25 lbs. of force for moving equipment. Occasional stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling. Environmental Conditions Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles. Work conducted on site in a medical/hospital setting or in an office environment. Mental/Visual Demands Vision and hearing within normal limits; glasses, contacts, or hearing aids permitted.
