Workers' Compensation Manager

Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Chief of Medical Services Administration, the Workers’ Compensation Manager oversees all functions of the Qualified Medical Evaluator program in the Medical unit. The incumbent will establish and monitor policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current statues and regulations and effective delivery of benefits to injured workers.

The Supervisor II classification is being appropriated for this position. If you have list eligibility as a Supervisor II it will be used to hire you as a Workers' Compensation Manager . Candidates with Supervisor II eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications for both Supervisor II and Workers' Compensation Manager.

Working Conditions

This position is located at: 1515 Clay Street, Oakland, CA 94612.

The incumbent works in an air conditioned office building with natural and artificial lighting as well temperature control. The office is equpped with standard office equipment, such as computers, scanners, copiers, and shredders. Telework, when appropriate, may be approved at the discretion of the Chief of Medical Services Administration.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws, regulations, and codes relative to workers’ compensation.
• Knowledge of the California Workers’ Compensation system.
• Knowledge of workers’ compensation case management, investigation and statistics.

• Excellent writing skills to prepare comprehensive reports and summaries.
• Supervisory experience in training, performance evaluation and oversight of staff.
• Ability to assure uniform application and interpretation of program policies and procedures.
• Analyzing complex claims to make recommendations or develop strategies to bring them to resolution.

• Experience researching, analyzing, and implementing applicable statutes, regulations, and policy.
• Experience communicating effectively with all levels of the organization.
• Experience working collaboratively and building partnerships with stakeholders.
• Experience effectively managing multiple priorities.
