UAS Resident Advisor (RA) Fall 2026-Spring 2027

UAS Residence Life is hiring Resident Advisors (RAs) for Fall/Spring 2026-2027 to provide support for UAS Housing student residents and the guest housing program. Our goal is to encourage and enhance the academic mission of the University through experiences outside of the classroom. RA’s serve as role models and mentors to residents by educating them on the Student Code of Conduct and UAS Housing policies, connecting them to on-campus resources, providing support in emergency situations that may arise, and by providing student engagement opportunities. A student in this position will expect responsibilities that are compensated by a semesterly Housing and Dining credit with opportunities for responsibilities that are compensated hourly. Your residential environment will provide the opportunity to experience new concepts, different cultures, an active community, and a pleasant and comfortable living space. Our goal is that you will get involved in your residential community and will help make it a “home away from home” for all our students.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate leadership potential or prior leadership experience. Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are necessary for engaging with diverse populations. The role involves conflict mediation, problem-solving, and decision-making based on sound judgment.

Candidates must be able to work independently and collaboratively, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage tasks efficiently. Availability for University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) Campus Life programs, community initiatives, and participation in an on-duty rotation is required. The on-duty rotation includes at least one night per week (5:00 PM – 8:00 AM) and full-day weekend shifts on a rotating basis, compensated by a Housing Credit.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining visibility in assigned residential communities, attending one staff meeting and one supervisory meeting per week, and supporting the mission, vision, and goals of UAS Student Affairs and Residence Life. A positive, problem-solving attitude and approachability are essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

At the time of hire, applicants must have applied for housing through the Department of Residence Life. Graduate Teaching Assistants are not eligible for RA positions due to time commitments.

A commitment of one full academic year (or the remainder of such at the time of hire). Preference is given to applicants with a minimum of two semesters of community living experience prior to their term of employment.

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:

a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA), be in good academic standing, or have approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee. If a successful candidate enters the position with a cumulative or semester grade point average below 2.0, the RA will be placed on Residence Life Academic Probation. The RA will have one semester to raise their cumulative and semester grade point average to 2.0 or above in order to remain employed in the RA role.
d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft and Google Suite applications. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds, visually identify individuals from a minimum of 10 feet away, and complete 30-minute campus rounds across various terrains, including stairs.

Applicants must complete all UAS employee Required Training (including Safety training, Title IX, Protection of minors, Campus Security Authority, and FERPA) within two weeks of their hire date.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAS campus in Juneau. This is a part-time, non-exempt Student Level 2 position, starting wage $14.38/hr with the following benefits:

• Housing Credit: Equivalent of a JPH shared bedroom buyout per semester for John Pugh Hall (JPH) and equivalent of a MHC single unit per semester for Main Housing Complex (MHC)
• Meal Plan Credit: $750 Meal Plan
