Everything from navigating the logistical puzzle of an environmental site investigation on the remote Aleutian Island chain, to designing and building a state-of-the art facility gets us excited! What can you expect? As the Geologist III, you will work out of the office in Anchorage or Fairbanks, AK, Post Falls, ID, Salt Lake City, UT, or Portland, ME and utilize your knowledge to participate in collecting, synthesizing and documenting data from investigated areas and assisting in the preparation of project documentation, in addition to providing field support as needed including field site supervision. Personal initiative and critical thinking skills are essential to complete job duties with minimal guidance. Assignments are deadline driven so must be able to set priorities, take ownership of projects, work efficiently and provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment. This position will support Project Managers and will include mentorship by various Project Managers and Technical Advisors. The expectation for this position is to be on the path to becoming a Project Manager or Technical Advisor. How will you do it?
- Conduct and oversee site inspections, assessments, investigations, and cleanups in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff.
- Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site inspection/investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of environmental project objectives.
- Prepare technical evaluations of investigated sites.
- Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
- Review and document the processes necessary to obtain, develop and/or update environmental permits, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental compliance and restoration project objectives.
- Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
- Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
- Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
- Participate and lead in creating an effective team dynamic.
- Provides technical QC of documentation.
- Is a lead author of technical documentation.
- Is a technical liaison for Clients.
- Lead a proactive safety culture.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as directed.
- Strong knowledge of the practical application of environmental engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various environmental services.
- Detailed Knowledge and understanding of RCRA, CERCLA, NPDES, CWA, OPPA, CAA, and other applicable laws, legal codes, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules governing environmental projects and programs.
- Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Ability to use analytical skills alongside scientific rules and methods to solve problems and apply logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
- Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and confidentially process and maintain data with accuracy with directions and mentorship
- Ability to effectively lead projects and work with multi-disciplined teams.
- Ability to proactively identify tasks to be completed, be self-directed, and accountable for results.
- Ability to communicate effectively & collaborate productively.
- Ability to demonstrate positional expertise.
- Ability to understand the business and finance needs.
- Bachelor's degree in geology, physical or environmental science, or environmental engineering.
- Seven to fifteen years of experience working on environmental projects.
- A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company's Driving Policy.
- Ability to pass drug and background screening.
- PG or PE preferred.
- 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certificate preferred.
- Experience in federal government projects is highly desired.
- Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response training with current 8-hour refresher preferred.
- Experience with Health and Safety functions a plus.
