Fleet Preventative Maintenance Technician

Distinguishing Characteristics:Under minimal supervision and administrative direction, performs a variety of preventative maintenance and ensures all mechanical repair(s) shall conform to applicable rules, regulations, and standards on a diverse fleet of vehicles and specialized equipment for Tucson Airport Authority (TAA), including public safety vehicles and equipment (Police) at Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN).Essential Functions:The following functions and all other functions not included in this job description are to be performed in the best interests and for the greater good of TAA.Support and advocate for TAA’s Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles and act as a champion and role-model of TAA’s Cultural Fundamentals.Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on a diverse fleet of automotive and specialized equipment, including gas and diesel vehicles, golf carts, both electric and gas, and small gas-powered hand tools.Inspect drive train, suspension, and brake systems on vehicles and equipment. Inspect cooling systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, exhaust systems and components.Report any discrepancies found during preventative maintenance inspections to supervisor.Test drive vehicles and equipment.Wash/detail vehicles.Prepare new vehicles for service.Operate many types of mechanical and electrical equipment.Maintain work records in accordance with Department policies.Use work order software to complete work orders, timecards, and parts requisitions.Use email and phones to communicate equipment/vehicle status.Ensure when performing jobs that all required materials and supplies are obtained to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.Research, locate, price, and submit appropriate information regarding the purchase of necessary parts and tools.Ensure that hazardous materials are used or disposed of in accordance with environmental health and safety standards.Must maintain all TAA owned or leased tools in a clean and proper manner.Be responsive to airport emergencies and situations that may involve loss of human life or property; support public safety and operational response to emergencies; utilize Incident Management System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols and procedures; coordinate and/or participate in after-action emergency de-briefing with appropriate departments and stakeholders.The above listed functions are not necessarily all the essential functions. Job duties and functions may be expanded or reduced by management based on future changing needs and job requirements.Position Requirements:Must have a high school diploma or equivalency, a minimum of 6 months mechanical work experience in automotive maintenance. Education, including high school or college automotive courses may be substituted for experience.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:Proper procedures for performing a complete automotive preventative maintenance inspection including but not limited to.Oil & filter ChangeTransmission fluid & filter changeDifferential fluid drain and fillHydraulic brake InspectionsLighting inspection and bulb replacementCooling system fluid drain and fillPower steering component inspection and fluid flushWheel bearing inspectionSuspension component inspectionBattery inspection and replacementMaintenance and repair of small equipment including, chain saws, weed eater, blowers, saws, generators, and golf carts.Inspection, patching, mounting, and balancing of tires.Skill in:Organization, oral, listening, and written communications, proof-reading, critical-thinking and multi-tasking.Self-motivation and taking initiative to complete quality work that furthers the mission and goals of the department and TAA.Using computers including email, Microsoft word, excel and electronic work order systemsAbility to:Environmental Requirements:Work in a high noise environment; work in garage environment with fumes and other chemicals.Work in inclement weather (wind, rain, cold, heat).Mental Requirements:Read and understand technical manuals, repair manuals, Safety Data Sheets regarding chemical substances, training documents, safety related information, and supply lists.Function within a work prioritization system.Perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, with mature judgment, to function in compelling, high stress, fast moving work surroundings, with deadlines.Physical Requirements:Read, write, and speak the English language in an articulate, fluent manner.Distinguish colors by a practical test and identify fuel grade color code markings, and actual samples of various fuels.Work in tight spaces/places.Operate any airport vehicle or equipment, whether standard or automatic, pick-up trucks and forklifts, off road equipment, and other necessary equipment.General:Work any assigned shift on a rotational basis, including evenings/weekends/holidays, subject to overtime as required.Initiate and organize responsibilities without observant supervision and take independent action relative to work problems requiring immediate solutions.Understand that dissemination of information outside of job requirements is based on “need-to-know” and must maintain discreet and professional sense of confidentiality due to sensitive nature of job functions.Be sensitive and aware of actions and reactions of employees and inform supervisor of appropriate concerns as necessary.Continually learn and apply the latest up-to-date technical knowledge and skills in functional area of responsibility.Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:Valid Arizona Driver’s license.Obtain and maintain the ability to drive airport vehicles and obtain authorization to access the Non-Movement Area.Must obtain and maintain access to the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) G1 Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair within 1 year of employment.Must successfully complete the National Incident Management (NIMS) 100, and 200 within 1 year of employment.As an employee, you are deemed to be essential personnel as part of TAA’s emergency response and must respond to airport incidents as requested/required. #J-18808-Ljbffr Tucson-Airport-Authority
