Senior Legal Project Manager : Washington, D.C. or New York Lead the matters that matter. A leading global law firm is seeking an exceptional Senior Legal Project Manager to take ownership of some of its largest, most complex and highest-value client engagements. This is a highly visible role at the intersection of legal delivery, client strategy, financial performance and operational excellence. You’ll work directly with senior partners, client legal operations teams and firm leadership bringing structure, insight and commercial discipline to sophisticated matters where the stakes are high. This isn’t a coordination role. It’s an opportunity to shape how complex legal work is delivered. Lead a portfolio of complex, high-value matters from planning through delivery. Act as a trusted strategic adviser to partners and senior client stakeholders. Build matter plans covering scope, milestones, budgets, resources and deliverables. Provide clear portfolio-level visibility, identifying trends, risks and opportunities. Manage budgets, forecasting and profitability analysis—and turn the data into practical recommendations. Advise partners on staffing, workload allocation and future resource requirements. Anticipate delivery risks and implement effective mitigation strategies. Create executive-level dashboards, performance reporting and portfolio updates. Collaborate across Finance, Legal Operations, Technology, Business Development and other specialist teams. Lead initiatives that improve processes, strengthen client service and increase efficiency. Mentor and develop Legal Project Managers and Analysts. Help evolve the firm’s LPM methodology, tools and best practices. You’ll be an established legal project management professional with the credibility, judgement and presence to influence at the highest levels. At least eight years’ experience in matter or portfolio management within a law firm. A strong track record of independently leading large, complex matters and portfolios. The confidence to advise and constructively challenge senior partners and executive-level client stakeholders. Excellent financial and commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting and profitability analysis. Advanced Excel skills and the ability to transform complex data into clear, actionable insight. Experience mentoring, coaching or supervising junior project management professionals. The ability to remain composed, decisive and effective in fast-moving, high-pressure environments. First-class communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills. Experience with Agile, Waterfall, MS Project, Asana or similar methodologies and tools would be valuable. PMP or an equivalent qualification is preferred. You will have the mandate and the platform to make a genuine impact.
