There is a designated charge nurse on each unit who may also take a small patient assignment if necessary. There are no nurse aides; sitters are provided if needed. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 in the ICU setting; nurses are expected to assist with respiratory needs. Nurses must interpret their own telemetry strips as there are no monitor techs on the unit. Shifts are scheduled from 7 PM to 7 AM. Travelers are expected to help fill scheduling gaps and submit time-off requests in advance. Weekend requirements include 6 to 9 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule.
