Phlebotomist

Job Details This is a contract job opportunity with potential for permanent placement. Location: Itasca, IL and surrounding suburbs (float job). Projected duration: 3 months with possible transition to permanent. Schedule: Available 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM depending on the location covered. Also available Saturday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Sunday shift may be required 7:00 AM–7:00 PM. Benefits are available. Mileage expenses paid. Requires a clean driving record and reliable transportation. Pay rate: $21 to $23 per hour. Responsibilities Perform blood draws and timed glucose tolerance testing. Process specimens, including paps, cultures, urine, and office-generated samples, in the computer system. Package specimens for courier pick‑up and maintain inventory of stock. Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to protocol and temperature requirements. Verify test requisitions and match specimen tubes to physician orders. Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously. Demonstrate technique using straight or butterfly needles. Follow OSHA and department regulations. Attend annual department trainings and answer phone calls about laboratory results. Maintain patient information and document maintenance data. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum 3 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting (at least 6 months in any such setting). Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
