This role requires someone who understands both the technical complexities of mobile development and the unique challenges of publishing platforms.Please note, this role is based in Atlanta, GA.WHAT YOU'LL DO: Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain the AJC mobile app using React Native, ensuring high performance and excellent user experience across iOS and Android platformsParticipate in CMS integration efforts, including Payload CMS implementation and complex migration projectsImplement and maintain website tracking, analytics integration, and user behavior monitoring systemsIntegrate asset management systems for seamless handling of images, videos, and multimedia content in a newsroom environmentCollaborate with newsroom teams to understand publishing workflows and translate requirements into technical solutionsUse Claude Code and AI-assisted development tools to accelerate development cycles and improve code qualityWork with cross-functional teams including product, design, backend engineers, and newsroom stakeholdersWHO YOU ARERequired QualificationsApplicants must currently reside within a commutable distance to midtown Atlanta and be comfortable with a hybrid scheduleApplicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship. No OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT or visa sponsorship now or in future.Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 4+ years of professional mobile development experience, with at least 2 years using React Native in productionMinimum of 4 years' professional experience in Mobile DevelopmentStrong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern development practicesDesign, build, and maintain high-performance mobile web experiences using Next.js and React NativeArchitect scalable front-end systems with server-side rendering (SSR), static site generation (SSG), and incremental static regeneration (ISR)Optimize for mobile performance, including Core Web Vitals, load times, bundle size, and offline behaviorBuild responsive, accessible interfaces that work across iOS and Android browsers and devicesCollaborate with designers, product managers, and backend engineers to turn requirements into polished featuresWrite clean, testable, well-documented code and contribute to code reviews and engineering standardsMentor junior and mid-level engineers and help raise the team’s technical barOwn technical decisions for mobile web architecture, tooling, and deployment pipelinesMonitor production performance and resolve issues quicklyExperience implementing analytics and tracking solutions in mobile applicationsWorking knowledge of asset management systems and media handling in publishing contextsKnowledge of native modules and React Native bridge developmentStrong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environmentsPreferred experience coding with AI tools BenefitsThe Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company’s needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members.
