2nd Shift CNC Machinist

2nd Shift CNC Machinist Location: Houston, TX, US, 77407 Work Arrangement: Onsite Shift Hours: 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm, Monday through Friday Role Overview The 2nd Shift CNC Machinist will set up, adjust, and operate CNC lathes and primarily mills, performing a variety of machining operations on standard work with tolerance and finish specifications. The role requires general knowledge of machining practices and techniques. Responsibilities Work from drawings, sketches and specifications to complete various machining operations. Edit CNC programs to manufacture parts per blueprint/drawings. Perform machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts. Obtain required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and perform inspections on work-in-progress using a variety of measuring devices. Complete and maintain all necessary records of time, part counts, first piece inspections, and requisition forms for each job. Make jigs, fixtures or other specialized non-production devices as qualified and assigned. Perform first piece inspections on basic product for other machinists as qualified and assigned. Perform routine preventative maintenance of machines according to PM schedule. Troubleshoot drawings, machining, tooling, programming, material, etc. and make competent decisions pertaining to the job at hand. Maintain and monitor machine shop equipment, safeguarding against improper use and incorrect set ups to prevent extensive damage. Detect errors with frequent tolerance/quality checks. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. 3+ years of trade school apprenticeship or equivalent shop experience as a machinist. Proficiency in shop math and blueprint reading. Beneficial if you have: Clear communication, both oral and written. Organization skills; keep area clean to 5S standards. Ability to meet productivity standards by completing work in a timely manner. Mental/Visual/Physical Effort Walks, stands, reaches, and bends frequently. Periodic lifting of moderate to heavy items may be required. Possesses good hand/eye coordination. Physical Hazards Normal operations require eye protection, steel-toed footwear, and occasionally hand protection. Working Conditions Exposure to normal machine shop environment with periodic noise. Limited disagreeable factors present.
