Job Title: Licensed Occupational Therapist Position Title: Licensed Occupational Therapist Location: Various Locations Salary: DFT Salary Schedule ($55,000 - $94,000) Reports to: ESE Lead Administrator Bargaining Unit: DFT Benefits Eligible: Yes Telecommuting Eligibility: School-based. Not eligible for telecommuting. Retention Bonus DPSCD will offer a $15,000 retention/recruitment certification bonus to existing and new educators who hold an active State of Michigan License for Occupational Therapy for the 2026-2027 school year. Position Summary Occupational therapists lead the process in development, implementation, and coordination of the occupational therapy process. Screening, evaluation, educational program, transition planning, therapeutic intervention, and exit planning is provided for students identified with or suspected of having disabilities that interfere with their ability to perform daily life activities and participate in the school environment. Primary responsibility shall include but not limited to student safety and appropriate collaboration and attention to each student’s readiness to learn including needed guidance, discipline, and welfare. Occupational therapist is expected to independently review outcomes and modify intervention programs. Employee may work in a variety of elementary and/or secondary educational, individual or team settings. Employee may rotate among several schools. The employee works with a high level of independence and professional discretion. Professional judgment and clinical knowledge are used to develop individualized programming based on occupational performance deficits in the areas of personal care, student role, interaction skills, process skills, play, community integration/work, and graphic communication. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a Bachelor or Master of Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university. State of Michigan license is required for this occupation. Essential Functions Test and evaluate students' physical and mental abilities. Select manual arts, crafts, homemaking, daily living skills, recreation, pre‑vocational and neuro‑developmental activities to fit students' needs and capabilities. Consult with other members of the team to confirm that the programs are suitable. Teach skills and techniques needed to do the activities. Prepare materials for student use. Evaluate student progress, attitudes, and behavior. Prepare/complete student progress reports. Complete all paperwork necessary to secure occupational therapy services. Lecture to various professionals, students, and community groups on occupational therapy. Integrate assistive technology into the classroom to improve academic learning.
