Welder Lead - 1st shift

Regular Full Time Technical South Milwaukee, WI, US Summary Under the direction of the Fabrication Supervisor, and in addition to the Welder position duties, the Lead Welder oversees the team ensuring that goals and objectives are met. The lead welder also welds components to assemble structural forms according to blueprints. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. Lead responsibilities: Oversees and inspects the welding team’s work, ensuring quality standards and production goals are met. Trains and mentors employees; assigs and directs work; provides input for performance appraisals; addresses complaints and resolves problems. Analyzes engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations Lay out, position, align, secure parts, and assemblies prior to assembly using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers Selects proper tooling and fixturing for job. Plans sequence of steps to perform duties Interpret weld symbols Assembles metal parts or products Prepares all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter Operates various welding, soldering or brazing equipment. Operates hoist, cranes, riggings, dollies and trucks to move equipment from one location to another Cleans work pieces or finished products Marks or tags material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required. Uses various precision measuring equipment to check work Examines/measures work pieces for defects and with straightedges or blueprints to ensure conformance with specifications Correctly fills out all paperwork associated with your job per procedure Completes job to specifications and in a timely manner Complies with all safety and sanitation regulations Performs other manufacturing duties as assigned Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or equivalent required; or demonstrated extensive welding experience 3+ years of related experience with .045 wire welding recommended CWI preferred Other skills Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing process Previous OSHA safety training and strong safety aptitude Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills - ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences Ability to read, understand and interpret manufacturing documents - including blueprints Working knowledge using a tape measure Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement practices and procedures - preferably Lean Manufacturing and 6S Proficient using Microsoft Office. Advanced Excel skills preferred Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy in a multi-task environment Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful, but not required. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, common fractions and decimals. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instruction provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
