Criminal Investigator Duties

As a CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR GS-1811-9/11/12 your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:

  1. Plan, coordinate, and conduct criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving allegations of fraud, employee misconduct, contract and grant fraud, and violations of Federal laws, regulations, and policies affecting EPA programs and operations.
  2. Gather, analyze, and evaluate documentary, financial, electronic, and testimonial evidence to determine evidentiary value, identify investigative leads, and develop appropriate investigative strategies.
  3. Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive investigative reports that summarize findings, document evidence, and support recommendations for criminal prosecution, civil enforcement, or administrative action.
  4. Interview witnesses, complainants, subjects, and other individuals; obtain sworn statements; coordinate with Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies; and present investigative findings to supervisors, prosecutors, and other government officials.
  5. Interpret and apply Federal criminal statutes, investigative procedures, agency regulations, and Office of Inspector General policies while maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and objectivity of investigative activities.
