Clinical experience or completion of Unit Secretary course or self‑study module preferred. Must successfully complete competency verification before starting on assigned unit. BLS required at time of hire. Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy and other collection procedures appropriately per established procedures. Perform specialized collections such as urine drug tests and PPDs if required. Process requisitions and enter test orders into the computer system; perform inquiry functions, specimen transport verification, and retrieve and print collection labels. Receive, process, and store specimens as appropriate, including centrifugation, splitting, acidifying, aliquoting, measuring, and stabilizing; perform biohazard disposal as needed. Perform waived and moderate‑complexity testing where training and competency are documented. Conduct routine equipment maintenance and function checks, including pipette calibration as required. Order and maintain supplies and inventory. Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies. Assist clinical floor staff with stocking supplies, cleaning, patient transport, and other tasks as necessary. Assist with patient transport and documentation. Perform nursing support tasks such as tray delivery, personal hygiene assistance, positioning, ambulation, and input/output recording. Communicate patient information to responsible nurse and participate in end‑of‑shift summations. Insert and remove gastric and urethral tubes; perform enemas and disimpactions. Remove peripheral IV lines and perform phlebotomy on units after specific training. Operate patient monitoring systems (cardiac and fetal heart monitoring) and perform bedside testing such as Oximetry, ECG, Glucometry, urinalysis, and other tests. Perform wound care and dressing changes; remove staples and sutures; assist with sterile procedures; assist with restraints under RN direction. Apply oxygen delivery devices as ordered. Document all care in the appropriate place in the patient record; assemble patient charts and post laboratory results. Deliver specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology, and Pathology; transport X‑rays, blood products, and equipment. Maintain cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit; clean and store equipment; empty trash, linen bags, and sharps containers; inventory supplies; process broken equipment as directed. Perform additional duties as required.
