About The Position This role reports to the System Engineering Supervisor and focuses on electrical engineering for the District's transmission and distribution systems, including design, cost estimating, drawing preparation, calculations, material and bid specifications, and planning and analysis to support construction, operation, and maintenance of transmission and distribution lines and related equipment. Position Information A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is required. Transmission and Distribution power utility experience is preferred but not mandatory; candidates with other relevant experience and qualifications are encouraged to apply. Certified Engineer in Training (EIT) for Level I and II or licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Washington for Level III is preferred. The successful candidate will be hired at Level I, II, or III depending on experience. Status: Full‑time, Exempt. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by IBEW Local Union No. 77. Work Week: Monday – Friday First Review Date: Friday, June 5 2026 at 5:00 pm Salary Ranges: Effective February 1 2026 Level I (0‑4+ years) $7,349 – $8,828 Level II (5‑8+ years) $9,077 – $11,833 Level III (9+ years) $12,188 – $13,372 Duties and Responsibilities Design and Maintenance Provide entry‑level engineering support for overhead and underground distribution, secondary electrical services, and transmission projects. Perform routine electrical engineering design and analysis for projects. Participate in preparation of specifications for contractor bids on distribution system construction projects. Coordinate projects and work with contractors and consulting engineers on design, construction, and specifications of distribution and transmission projects. Evaluate distribution system protection coordination schemes. Conduct fault studies for proper application of fuses, reclosers, and substation relay settings. Perform economic evaluations and cost estimating for distribution and transmission system projects and operation. Provide instruction and answers regarding design issues. General Engineering Provide basic electrical engineering support to other departments. Develop and update computer analysis programs or tracking systems for appropriate projects. Other Participate in presentations, special projects, and assignments as directed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Working Conditions Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Ability to read, interpret, and apply applicable laws, codes, standards, and safety practices relating to electrical utility work. Ability to apply engineering theory to system studies and basic electrical power system design. Ability to work under direct and indirect supervision. Thorough knowledge of basic fundamentals of electricity. Knowledge of engineering fundamentals, drawing, design, and mathematics. Knowledge of operating personal computers and office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of the organization, contractors, and customers. Demonstrated ability to complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner. Education and Experience Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combinations of education and/or experience allowing professional electrical engineering work on electrical power systems. 0 – 3 years of relevant experience. Other Requirements Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license (out‑of‑state residents have 30 days from hire to obtain one) and qualify for the District's auto liability insurance. Work performed in an office and in the field. Exposure to conditions and hazards from brush, obstacles, debris, holes, fences, and open trenches at construction sites or rural service areas, and potential exposure to electrical high‑voltage lines and aggressive animals. May be required to work beyond normal business hours and travel overnight. Employee Benefits As of May 2026, the District offers the following benefits, subject to change. PTO is accrued each pay period. Full‑time employees earn leave as indicated below; part‑time employees receive prorated leave based on hours worked. Year of Employment – Accrual Days per Pay Period 1st year: 21 days 2nd year: 21 days 3rd year: 21 days 4th year: 21 days 5th year: 24 days 6th year: 24 days 7th year: 25 days 8th year: 25 days 9th year: 26 days 10th year: 27 days 11th year: 28 days 12th year: 29 days 13th year: 30 days 14th year: 31 days 15th year: 32 days 16th year: 33 days 17th year: 34 days 18th year: 35 days 19th year: 35 days 20th year: 36 days 21st–24th year: 36 days 25th year: 37 days 30th year: 39 days Holidays Official holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, Christmas Eve (when falls on Monday‑Thursday). Each August 1, employees receive three additional floating holidays to be used within the next 12 months. Retirement Plan The District participates in the Washington State Public Employee’s Retirement System (PERS). Both employee and employer contributions are made on a tax‑deferred basis. Medical and Dental Insurance Regular employees receive Medical/Vision and Dental insurance, beginning the month following hire. The District pays 90 % of the premium; employees pay the remaining 10 %. Life Insurance Basic life insurance of $40,000 per employee, with additional Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage of $100,000. Optional additional coverage available for purchase. Long‑Term Disability Insurance Eligible after six months of employment, offering a benefit of 40 % of regular earnings, with the option to add 20 % additional coverage. Deferred Compensation 401(k) and 457 plans are available to regular employees; employees may participate after six months. The District matches voluntary contributions up to specified percentages based on credited years of service. Credit Union Membership in the Utility Employees Federal Credit Union is offered to employees and families, with payroll deduction available for deposits and loan payments.
