The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. It is essential to communicate the patient's clinical status effectively, responding promptly and accurately to any changes in their condition or treatment response. You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions with colleagues. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
• Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery settings, particularly assisting with C-sections, is mandatory.

COMPETENCIES:

• Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, along with basic computer proficiency, are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
2. Collaborate with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on assessment data for each surgical patient.
3. Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize medication errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their administration according to patient age and clinical condition, while following safety policies.
4. Provide all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes, adhering to policies for patient identification and surgical procedures.
5. Document the nursing process and responses to care promptly using the appropriate tools.
6. Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
7. Practice autonomously in line with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development while serving as a role model and mentor.
8. Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to identify specific needs.
9. Deliver accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
