Job Description Job Description Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) - Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Position Title: Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) Location: Texas Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Pharmacy Owner/Director Position Summary The Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) is responsible for the overall management, compliance, operations, and clinical oversight of the pharmacy. The PIC ensures compliance with all applicable federal and Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, medication safety, sterile compounding quality, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess strong sterile compounding experience, exceptional attention to detail, leadership skills, and the ability to manage pharmacy staff while fostering a culture of compliance, accuracy, and customer service. Required Qualifications * Active Texas Pharmacist License in good standing. * Minimum of 2 years of pharmacist experience preferred. * Sterile compounding experience required. * Knowledge of USP <797> , USP <800> , and applicable Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations. * Immunization certification preferred. * Current CPR certification preferred. * Strong leadership and team management skills. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills. * Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment. * Proficient with pharmacy management systems and Microsoft Office applications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance * Serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge according to Texas State Board of Pharmacy requirements. * Ensure compliance with all federal, state, DEA, HIPAA, and Board of Pharmacy regulations. * Maintain all required licenses, permits, registrations, and pharmacy records. * Develop, implement, and enforce pharmacy policies and procedures. * Lead preparation for inspections and audits by regulatory agencies. * Ensure proper controlled substance management, inventory, storage, and documentation. Sterile Compounding Oversight * Supervise all sterile compounding operations in accordance with USP <797> and USP <800> . * Ensure environmental monitoring, personnel competency assessments, and quality assurance programs are maintained. * Oversee aseptic technique training and annual competency evaluations. * Verify compounding formulas, calculations, beyond-use dating, and documentation. * Monitor cleanroom operations and ensure compliance with all cleaning and maintenance protocols. * Investigate and document compounding deviations, errors, and corrective actions. Pharmacy Operations * Manage daily pharmacy workflow and staffing. * Ensure accurate dispensing and verification of prescriptions. * Monitor prescription turnaround times and customer service standards. * Maintain adequate inventory levels and oversee medication purchasing. * Monitor pharmacy profitability, inventory controls, and waste reduction initiatives. * Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and patient satisfaction. Clinical Responsibilities * Review prescriptions for appropriateness, drug interactions, allergies, contraindications, and therapeutic duplication. * Provide patient counseling and medication education. * Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers regarding patient therapy. * Administer immunizations and clinical services as authorized by Texas law. * Participate in medication therapy management and patient care initiatives. Leadership & Staff Development * Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate pharmacy personnel. * Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment. * Conduct ongoing training regarding compliance, patient safety, and quality standards. * Delegate responsibilities appropriately while maintaining accountability. * Address performance concerns and implement corrective actions when necessary. Quality Assurance & Risk Management * Maintain a culture of patient safety and continuous quality improvement. * Investigate medication errors and implement corrective measures. * Ensure proper documentation and reporting of incidents. * Monitor quality metrics and identify opportunities for improvement. * Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Strong knowledge of sterile compounding practices and quality assurance standards. * Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. * Ability to make sound clinical and operational decisions. * Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. * Excellent organizational and time-management abilities. * Ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. * Commitment to patient-centered care and regulatory compliance. Physical Requirements * Ability to stand for extended periods. * Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. * Ability to perform repetitive hand movements required for pharmacy operations and sterile compounding activities. Preferred Qualifications * Experience as a Pharmacist-in-Charge. * Experience in community pharmacy and sterile compounding environments. * Experience with accreditation standards (ACHC, URAC, PCAB, or similar). * Experience managing pharmacy audits, PBM audits, and quality assurance programs.
