Director of Facilities

Coriell Institute for Medical Research is looking to hire a Director of Facilities . Candidates with fewer years of experience leading all building operations for a Scientific/Research Organization are encouraged to apply, but may be considered for a Manager or Associate Director-Level role.

The Director of Facilities is an integral part of our management team. This individual will work closely with Executive leadership and key stakeholders in maintaining Coriell Institute’s existing locations. This individual will also be expected to directly support Coriell leadership regarding Coriell’s new campus and building plans.

The Director of Facilities will be responsible for a broad range of activities including but not limited to:

• Overseeing the maintenance and repair of all building systems including HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing security, etc.,
• Managing different teams to handle ongoing facilities and procurement goals, including the Facilities team,
• Negotiate pricing for maintenance contracts, equipment and supplies in accordance with Coriell policies and NIH and OMB guidelines,
• Manage and submit reports to the State of New Jersey and Federal Government for necessary permits and compliance,
• Overseeing service and maintenance agreements for scientific equipment,
• Manage contractors who work on renovations and repairs,
• Working with Coriell Institute’s internal stakeholders to develop best practices for supply chain management, building maintenance, etc,
• Vendor Management accross the entire Facilities department, including but not limited to: HVAC/Heating, Electrical, Elevator, etc.
• Oversee Facilities Team, allocating their time and resources as appropriate. Lead and complete other projects as directed by Coriell Leadership Team.
• This role Fully Responsible for all facilities responsibilities at Coriell's location, required to be a first point of contact when emergency or operational failures occur at Coriell during non-business hours - which includes power outages, security alarms, etc. This responsibility is 24/7/365 - candidates who are not comfortable with this responsibility should refrain from applying, as it is non-negotiable due to the nature and impact of Coriell's work as a worldwide provider of biomedical samples that in some cases are not easily replaceable.

Requirements:

Education

GED is required, while a Bachelor's Degree in Science or Business is preferred.

Experience

To be successful in this role, candidates should have at least 8-10 years of experience in managing a life science or scientific facility. Candidates who have not been responsible for a building hosting life science/medical research operations cannot be considered at this time.

Candidates will also have background in the following areas are encouraged to apply:

• General Contracting or Construction
• Electrical/Plumbing/HVAC Systems
• Academic/Scientific Building Management

Competencies

Preferred candidates will have a working knowledge to fully utilize Microsoft Office/Google Workspace applications like Excel and word. Ability to navigate web interfaces and building management system is required.

Related certifications pertaining to facilities or procurement are preferred. The ability to work independently, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work well under multiple deadlines are all required for this role.

Ability to oversee complex scientific operations from a facilities standpoint is critical. Experience working with laboratory facilities is crucial. Ability to manage a Team is required.

Location

Candidates must be located within 15-20 mile radius of Coriell’s Location, or be willing to relocate due to the emergency, on-call nature of the role.

Pay & Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $110,000-$145,000, but a final offer of employment will be commensurate with relevant experience. This role would be eligible for benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life/Disability, etc). This employee would also be eligible for an employer contribution upon participation in Coriell's 401(a) Retirement Plan.
