Mechanical Design EngineerLocation: Fishers, INPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dedicated in-house engineering group responsible for HVAC system design and limited plumbing design support. This position supports design-build project delivery, working directly alongside internal fabrication, installation, BIM, and electrical teams to develop efficient, constructible mechanical systems.Unlike traditional plan/spec engineering roles, this position offers direct involvement in design/bid and design-build work, allowing engineers to maintain technical authority while benefiting from streamlined project coordination and accelerated design cycles. The engineering team plays an integral role throughout project execution, from concept development through construction support.Core ResponsibilitiesDevelop HVAC system designs and construction documents, including drawings and specifications, for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilitiesPerform heating and cooling load calculations using Trace or similar software and evaluate system options based on performance, constructability, and project requirementsSelect mechanical equipment and systems; size ductwork, hydronic piping, and plumbing componentsCoordinate with equipment manufacturers and vendors to develop compliant, site-specific design solutionsConduct field surveys and existing conditions assessments in support of proposals and active projectsContribute to project planning by adjusting design approaches and supporting detailed design phasesPrepare, review, and verify engineering calculations, reports, and technical documentationCoordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines using Revit and Navisworks, resolving clashes and constructability concernsProvide ongoing coordination and technical support throughout the design and construction processQualifications4+ years of mechanical engineering experience (HVAC or plumbing systems)If a candidate is lighter in HVAC/Plumbing experience here they need to make up for it with strong Revit or technical experienceRevit design proficiencyAbility to work in a fast paced environmentAbility to coordinate between disciplines on the designNice-to-Haves:Commercial and industrial systems experience is preferredExperience from design consulting firms is also preferredProject ExposureIndustrial and manufacturing facilitiesWarehouse and tenant improvement projectsCommercial buildings including higher education, K-12, hospitality, office, and large food service facilitiesEngineering EnvironmentThis role is part of a fully integrated engineering organization where design decisions directly inform fabrication and installation.
