POSITION SUMMARY The Dietician is an integral member of Astra Mental Health and Recovery’s Crisis Intervention Center (CIC) multidisciplinary team and supports Astra’s mission to deliver integrated, trauma-informed, and person-centered care across the lifespan. This position provides medical nutrition therapy, assessment, and education for individuals served in crisis stabilization or recovery settings. The Dietitian promotes whole-person wellness by addressing the interrelationship between nutrition, physical health, and mental well-being—including care for individuals with eating disorders, disordered eating patterns, and nutrition-related behavioral health concerns. Within Astra’s Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) framework, the Dietitian collaborates with medical, nursing, and behavioral health staff to support recovery, stabilization, and improved health outcomes. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Timely attendance and punctuality to all scheduled shifts, trainings, supervision etc. Provide appropriate notice and follow program protocol on notification prior to absence and tardiness. Establish appropriate and professional boundaries with individuals receiving services and treatment professionals. Uphold Astra’s values by treating all individuals served, families, and colleagues with dignity, respect, and compassion. Consistently demonstrate the ability to work positively and effectively within a team, as well as individually. Demonstrate clear, respectful, and effective communication with individuals served, coworkers, and supervisors. Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments to evaluate dietary patterns, medical conditions, and behavioral or emotional factors affecting nutrition. Develop and implement individually tailored nutrition care plans that address mental and physical health goals, food preferences, and clinical conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. Provide nutrition counseling and intervention for individuals with eating disorders (e.g., anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, ARFID, and unspecified disordered eating). Work collaboratively with therapists, physicians, and nurses to ensure integrated treatment planning for individuals receiving care for eating or feeding disorders. Deliver education and motivational support related to balanced nutrition, body image, and healthy relationships with food in a non-stigmatizing, recovery-oriented manner. Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and care coordination meetings to promote cohesive treatment approaches across disciplines. Support the development and supervision of therapeutic meal and snack planning in collaboration with Food Services to ensure nutritional adequacy and safety for individuals in care. Provide consultation and staff education on nutrition’s role in behavioral health recovery, medication management, and wellness promotion. Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate documentation in Astra’s electronic health record (EHR) per CCBHC and Medicaid standards. Uphold professional and ethical standards, including sensitivity to trauma, culture, and body diversity. Assure compliance with program policies and procedures. Meet performance and productivity standards set by the agency. Participate in quality improvement, training, and health-promotion initiatives to enhance Astra’s integrated care model. Support Astra’s mission and CCBHC values of Access, Comprehensive Care, Excellent Outcomes, and Sustainability . Other Duties Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence Approach interactions with individuals served and colleagues with a trauma-sensitive lens Acts as an ambassador of the agency in the community setting, which may include doing public educational and informational presentations. Support and actively promote the vision and mission of the agency and the philosophy of the strength’s perspective Completes required trainings Other duties as assigned, as qualified and trained for. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Licensed Dietician and preferred experience working with individuals with mental illness or in the human services field. Must be 21 years of age or older Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license, access to reliable transportation and proof of auto insurance. Must have good command of the English language; must be able to read, communicate clearly and therapeutically with person’s served and staff, both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner. Must be proficient with basic computer skills, keyboarding and word processing skills Must be able to pass criminal background check and DCF Child & Adult Abuse Registry check. Assignment at the CIC requires pre-employment physical, drug screening, flu immunization and TB screening prior to starting any position. All must be completed or in process/scheduled to be cleared for new hire orientation. Annual flu vaccinations and bi-annual TB screening are required. Ability to work shifts based on the needs of the program. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent engagement and assessment skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to communicate effectively and be a team player Strong problem-solving and leadership skills Ability to take and supply constructive feedback Understanding of Risk Reduction, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma Informed Care. Must successfully complete Managing Aggressive Behavior and SafeClinch training. Able to maintain confidentiality of person served information Strong oral and written skills Other Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during assessments and food-service coordination. Occasional lifting or moving of food, equipment, or materials (up to 25 lbs). Adequate visual and auditory acuity to observe safety and communication cues. Requires emotional endurance, situational awareness, and composure typical of crisis environments. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT The Dietitian works within Astra’s Crisis Intervention Center, a 24/7 behavioral health environment supporting adults in acute emotional or psychiatric crisis. The role combines nutrition care with trauma-informed principles to promote stabilization, recovery, and wellness. This position requires flexibility, collaboration with multidisciplinary staff, and compassion when working with individuals in high-stress or unpredictable situations. The Dietitian is an integral contributor to Astra’s whole-person approach to behavioral health.
