Ministry Description:

Emmanuel Baptist Church (EBC) is prayerfully seeking a pastor to shepherd our congregation in beautiful Cache Valley, Utah. We desire a pastor with a heart for biblical preaching, faithful shepherding, and evangelistic ministry who senses God’s call to serve in a unique and strategic mission field.

Ministering in Cache Valley:

Northern Utah provides a significant opportunity for gospel ministry. In a region where evangelical Christians are a small percentage of the population, the need is great and we believe the harvest is ready. The Lord has been at work in our church and community, and we rejoice that we saw eight conversions and 10 baptisms last year.

We are seeking a pastor who has a genuine burden and compassion for our lost friends and neighbors, and a desire to labor faithfully in gospel ministry.

About Our Church:

Emmanuel Baptist Church averages 81 people in weekly attendance with 59 active members. Our church family is made up of both newer believers and members who have faithfully served the Lord at EBC for more than 30 years. We are united by our love for Jesus Christ and our desire to see His Word preached, His people discipled, and our community reached with the gospel.

We desire to have a pastor with an effective ministry to strengthen and encourage young families, children, and youth, while lovingly shepherding the mature members of our congregation to a deeper walk with God.

Cache Valley offers an excellent quality of life for individuals and families alike. Surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, our area provides abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation including fishing, hunting, hiking, boating, skiing, 4-wheel adventuring, camping, and exploring the beauty of Northern Utah, Southern Idaho, and Western Wyoming.

The region is also home to the Utah State University Aggies, a thriving performing arts culture, many antique stores, and family-oriented activities year-round that contribute to a vibrant and family-friendly community atmosphere.

While this is a wonderful place to live, candidates must understand the needs and challenges of the Christian church in a predominantly Latter-Day Saints (LDS) culture. The candidate must communicate lovingly and patiently with our LDS friends and neighbors while inviting them into the freedom of life in Christ.

Qualifications for Pastor:

Gives clear evidence that God has called the candidate to Gospel ministry as a faithful shepherd 1 Peter 5:1-3
Committed to expositional, in-depth preaching of the whole Word of God 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Affirms the authority, sufficiency, and inerrancy of Scripture
Meets the Biblical qualifications for an elder or overseer as given in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
Affirms and agrees to abide by the EBC constitution and bylaws
Must support the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
Must be a seminary graduate
Must have experience in pastoral ministry including preaching, teaching, congregational care, evangelism, and leadership
Must demonstrate a lifestyle of personal spiritual disciplines including Bible study, prayer, and a commitment to continual learning and personal spiritual growth

Responsibilities:

Preaching and Teaching – 

Serve as the primary preacher, delivering expository, exegetical, Christ-centered messages that are faithful to Scripture and applicable to daily Christian life
Disciple the flock through Bible studies and personal interactions
Encourage, develop, and train teachers to lead and disciple all ages within the church family
Identify, encourage, develop, and train men in the church who can share the preaching responsibility when needed
Teach in alternate settings as needed including leadership training, small Bible studies, membership classes, and annual special services such as Christmas Eve, Easter, etc.
Develop an extended preaching calendar to ensure that the church is receiving methodical teaching and training through the Word of God

Spiritual Leadership – 

Prayerfully discern and articulate a clear vision for future ministry and discipleship within EBC, in partnership with the deacons and ministry leaders, that is consistent with our church values and the needs of our community
Develop and update our church mission statement and other documents as needed to help us focus and move forward to more effective ministry in our community
Work with, train, and encourage our deacons as they aim to meet the physical and spiritual needs of our church family
Participate in ongoing personal and spiritual development including pastoral training and conferences – demonstrating a love of learning and growth to the church family
Demonstrate a willingness to serve when God brings additional opportunities for church or community ministry, if it is aligned with Biblical standards and beneficial to our church family 

Lead and Develop Staff – 

Oversee and lead all church staff, delegating and rearranging operational responsibilities as needed
Foster a staff culture of responsibility, accountability, spiritual health, discretion, and unity
Develop and train additional staff positions as needed to ensure the church is meeting the needs of the church family

Shepherding – 

Provide pastoral care through visitation, counseling, office hours, and general availability as much as is appropriate
Provide or oversee pre-marital counseling and perform weddings as appropriate for the church family and in accordance with scripture
Perform funerals as needed
Administer the Lord’s Supper, baptisms, baby dedications, and other pastoral responsibilities as needed
Arrange for pulpit supply as needed

Discipleship and Outreach – 

Develop and implement ministries that make disciples and help church members to grow ever deeper in their walk with God and understanding of Scripture
Support, encourage, and participate in existing missions opportunities enjoyed by EBC, and seek to expand our missions outreach
Encourage missions education and participation among all age groups

Oversee Financial and Administrative Offices – 

Ensure all financial activities are within the established budget, are in accordance with sound financial practices, and are consistent with the church’s constitution and bylaws
Ensure that the staff, deacons, and ministry leaders are supported, informed, and empowered to effectively serve and minister in our church and community

Relationships:

Mutual accountability with church deacons
Leads all church staff and volunteers
Works with deacons, staff, and ministry leaders

Compensation:

This is a full-time salaried position. The Pastor will be presented with an at-will employment contract for an indefinite term of office. Compensation is negotiable, commensurate with education and experience.

·        Monthly housing allowance suitable for the area

·        Salary: $38,000 – $41,000 annually

Mileage reimbursement
Retirement and health insurance negotiable

Vacations:

The Pastor may take paid vacation of five Sundays annually with no more than two consecutive weeks’ absence with a two-week notice.

The pastor will arrange for pulpit supply during his absences.
