Position Summary

The Front Desk Receptionist / Cross-Trained Dental Assistant is responsible for providing excellent patient service at the front desk while also supporting clinical operations as a dental assistant when needed. This dual-role position ensures smooth patient flow, efficient scheduling, and high-quality care support in a fast-paced dental practice.

Key Responsibilities

Front Desk Duties

• Greet and welcome patients in a friendly and professional manner
• Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and manage patient communications
• Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments
• Verify insurance eligibility and collect co-pays or payments
• Maintain accurate patient records and update demographic/insurance information
• Manage daily schedule to optimize provider productivity
• Handle basic billing support and insurance follow-ups as needed
• Ensure the reception area remains clean and organized

Dental Assistant Duties (Cross-Trained)

• Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures
• Prepare and sterilize instruments and treatment rooms
• Take and process dental radiographs (if certified/allowed by state law)
• Prepare materials such as impressions, trays, and restorative supplies
• Provide chairside support, including suctioning and patient comfort
• Review post-operative instructions with patients
• Follow infection control and OSHA safety protocols

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of a dental assisting program preferred or on-the-job training accepted
• Current dental assistant certification or radiology certification (if required by state)
• Prior front desk or customer service experience preferred
• Familiarity with dental practice management software is a plus
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to multitask and remain organized in a busy environment
