POSITION SUMMARY

The Electrophysiology (EP) Invasive Specialist Registered Nurse (RN) provides electrophysiology procedural support in compliance with regulatory and department processes in a timely, safe and efficient manner. The EP Invasive Specialist RN is proficient in all aspects of electrophysiology, sterile preparation, assessment, documentation, and monitoring. The EP Invasive Specialist RN will assist in other procedural areas (i.e., cardiac cath, interventional radiology) when needed.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Assists physicians to enhance hemodynamic and angiographic techniques and anticipates equipment needs.
2. Sets up and monitors EP recording computer monitor system, labels printouts, displays electrode combinations, measures cycle and interval lengths, reports changes to physician. Records temporary playback of procedure for initial, immediate review by physician.
3. Supports physicians with mapping, stimulating, and catheter insertions as required.
4. Adheres to approved standards of aseptic technique in prepping patients and during procedures. Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for the patient in the Lab.
5. Facilitates implementation of physician's orders accurately, promptly, and courteously. Promotes interdepartmental/client relationships with positive interactive skills, maintaining a professional, team-oriented working environment.
6. Recognizes potential emergency/life threatening situations and implements preventative measures as directed by the physician.
7. Assigns and supervises accordingly those assigned to him/her by the Supervisor/ Manager.
8. Performs all aspects of monitoring, recording, scrubbing, and holding room responsibilities with exceptional level of professionalism and expertise.
9. Executes all aspects of circulating, including of Conscious Sedation/Narcotic drug therapy as ordered by physician, while maintaining a working knowledge of drugs commonly used in the Lab. Demonstrates and practices proper protection measures to ensure radiation safety and minimize risk of exposure to possible hazardous materials.
10. Conducts CQI daily; Operates, problem-solves and improvises for common equipment malfunctions.
11. Ensures all supplies are properly rotated or removed from procedure areas and all supplies and medications are properly charged to each patient accurately.

Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN) or Nursing Diploma.
• Work Experience: None
• Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in The State of Florida or endorsement.
• Certification:

1. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
2. American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA ACLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card within 90 days of start date and maintained thereafter for Special Procedure Units.

• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

1. Ability to take call acknowledging emergency alerts within five (5) minutes and present to hospital within 30 minutes of alert
2. Ability to work long variable hours.
3. Potential for possible exposure to radiation.
4. Ability to wear lead aprons for extended periods of time.
5. Ability to perform in a stressful environment and respond appropriately in life threatening situations
6. Great communication skills in an active team environment.
7. Basic computer skills including knowledge of MS Office - Outlook and Word.
8. Ability to assess and interpret data.
9. Ability to clearly communicate with patient/family at various levels of understanding.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Work Experience: One (1) year of RN experience in an acute care setting.
• Certification: Any one of the following:

1. Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) OR
2. Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) OR
3. Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN).

• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

1. Knowledge of electrophysiology diagnostic procedures.
2. Knowledge of interventional radiology procedures.
3. Knowledge of peripheral diagnostic procedures.
4. Knowledge of peripheral intervention procedures.
5. Knowledge of interventional cardiology procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
• May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
• May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
