Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer provides leadership and direction to the Engineering team and ensures that all building standards are maintained. This role is responsible for inspecting the property and confirming that all systems are operating at peak performance. The Chief Engineer is a hands-on department head responsible for overseeing the engineering team and all related functions, including but not limited to the following: Coach, lead, and motivate the engineering team through training, clear goals, and defined objectives. Oversee all maintenance operations for the facility, including refrigeration, CPO-certified systems, heating, plumbing, HVAC, kitchen and laundry equipment, emergency systems, electrical systems, painting, finish work, drywall, and related areas. Manage inventory, purchasing, and departmental expenses to ensure adherence to budget and forecast guidelines. Maintain and update engineering policies, procedures, work orders, projects, upgrades, and repairs while ensuring compliance with company standards. Monitor vendors to ensure quality, timely delivery, warranty fulfillment, exchanges, and upgrades. Oversee and track preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, meeting rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and all equipment. Ensure 24/7 engineering coverage, including on-call responsibilities, and serve as Manager on Duty when scheduled. Obtain competitive bids for supplies, work orders, and preventive maintenance programs annually or as needed. Serve as Life Safety Director, overseeing safety, health, and sanitation policies and procedures at the property. Complete projects as assigned by the General Manager and maintain coordination with corporate engineering leadership. Job Requirements: Minimum of 5 years of Director or Chief Engineer experience in a full-service hotel environment. Demonstrates professionalism and urgency when interacting with guests, team members, and the public. Identifies opportunities to improve operations and enhance the guest experience. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify variances in standards. Highly organized and able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control skills. Effective communication skills, including the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and technical documents. Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence, and procedural documents. Comfortable presenting information and responding to questions from management, guests, and clients.
