Answer phone calls and coordinate communication between patients and medical staff. Schedule or coordinate patient appointments and maintain calendar for medical providers. Ensure accurate medical records are maintained, updating patient information as necessary. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential. Sterilize medical instruments and maintain equipment. Assist the provider or nurse with physical exams and various medical procedures by setting up the exam room, recording the patient's health history, and obtaining vital signs. Administer injections and vaccinations as per provider orders, as directed by the registered nurse or provider and as permitted by state law. Perform EKGs, blood draws, and other diagnostic tests as directed. Assist during medical examinations and procedures. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations. Adhere to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines. Other duties as assigned. CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT POSITION SUMMARY & REQUIREMENTS The CMA delivers quality care consistent within the scope of practice as outlined by the local state. The CMA assumes responsibility and accountability for the quality of care delivered during work hours; works to ensure a safe environment for themselves, the patient and other staff members. Must possess a current and valid CMA certificateWorks in accordance with local practice acts and regulations, and functions to other competent nursing personnel appropriate to their scope of practiceExperience in Correctional or behavioral desired but not required.CPR certified.
