School Clerk

Atlanta Public Schools is looking for a self-motivated School Clerk to performs a variety of office support tasks for administrators including answering telephones, filing, copying, posting, data entry, typing, and word processing. This position reports to the School Principal and will be assigned to be physically present in the school building location.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent GED and two years of experience preferred. The candidate should have written and oral communication skills.

Essential duties include greeting school visitors and answering telephones; referring callers and responding to routine inquiries in a courteous manner. The candidate should draft document formats; type forms, letters, reports, memos, contracts and requisitions. They should execute automated data entry assignments, receive, sort and distribute incoming mail, and prepare and issue bid documents to prospective bidders. Other duties will be assigned by the appropriate administrator. The candidate is required to attend scheduled shifts during regular business hours as mandated.

Physical abilities and working conditions include the ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods, tolerate exposure to noisy conditions, and be understood in face-to-face communications, over a telephone or computer. The candidate should have upper body mobility to grasp, manipulate small objects, and lift objects which weigh as much as 5 or more pounds on a frequent basis. They should also be able to encounter constant work interruptions, work cooperatively with others, work independently, and work indoors. Mental requirements include reading, writing, understanding, interpreting and applying information at a moderately complex level, math skills at a high school proficiency level, judgement, the ability to process information quickly, learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards, give verbal instruction, rank tasks in order of importance, copy, compare, compile and coordinate information and records, and understand how to manage stress. The candidate should be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person and various classroom learning environments.
