Job Summary

Homer Fire Protection is hiring a NICET-certified Fire Alarm Technician to build and lead our fire alarm inspection and service operations across the DMV market. This role requires hands-on expertise in the inspection, testing, and maintenance of commercial fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, including addressable and conventional panels such as FireLite, Silent Knight, Notifier, and equivalent systems.

You will manage a daily route of commercial accounts — restaurants, schools, offices, hospitality, and light industrial clients — performing code-required inspections, testing, service, and repairs. You will also support our fire extinguisher and emergency lighting operations.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Testing

•       Perform code-required periodic inspections and testing of commercial fire alarm systems per NFPA 72 and local AHJ requirements

•       Test initiating devices (smoke and heat detectors, pull stations, duct detectors), notification appliances, and supervisory and monitoring connections

•       Identify and document deficiencies and impairments — failed devices, coverage gaps, communication troubles — and communicate findings clearly to the customer

•       Verify panel programming, battery backup capacity, and central-station communication paths

Service & Maintenance

•       Perform sensitivity testing and cleaning or replacement of smoke detectors per NFPA 72 requirements

•       Replace batteries, devices, and notification appliances as part of routine service

•       Perform system resets and functional verification after service, coordinating with monitoring centers to place systems on and off test

•       Coordinate testing windows with facility staff and tenants, minimizing disruption to operations

Repairs & Troubleshooting

•       Diagnose and repair panel troubles, ground faults, wiring faults, and device failures

•       Troubleshoot addressable loops and restore systems to full operational and code-compliant status

•       Provide same-day or emergency repair response to minimize customer downtime and impairment periods

Documentation & Customer Communication

•       Maintain accurate digital inspection and testing records (NFPA 72 inspection reports) for fire marshal review using Homer Fire’s field documentation system

•       Explain inspection findings, code requirements, and corrective action timelines to facility managers professionally

•       Flag recurring issues and escalate complex repairs appropriately

•       Stay current on local AHJ requirements across Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC jurisdictions

Field Operations

•       Manage a daily route of commercial accounts across the DMV area

•       Represent Homer Fire Protection directly with customers: professional communication, job-site ownership, and no-excuse follow-through

•       Available for on-call rotation and emergency service calls

What We’re Looking For

•       NICET Level II certification (Fire Alarm Systems or Inspection & Testing of Fire Alarm Systems) required — or equivalent factory certification (FireLite, Notifier, Silent Knight) with 3+ years of inspection, testing, and maintenance experience

•       3+ years of experience inspecting, testing, and servicing commercial fire alarm systems

•       Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and NFPA 10 standards

•       Hands-on experience with addressable and conventional panels — FireLite, Silent Knight, Notifier, Potter, or equivalent

•       Electrical troubleshooting skills and low-voltage wiring competence

•       Professional communication skills — you represent the company in the field

•       Valid Virginia driver’s license

•       Experience with inspection reporting software and local AHJ submittal processes a plus

•       Hourly pay based on experience $32+ /hr
