Job Description Summary: The Specialist 2, Communications and Electronics will serve as the district’s telecommunications resident expert and provide technical support for low voltage components, including intercom, public address, and stage lighting systems. Responsibilities Coordinate with planning and construction on all scheduled telecommunications and low voltage projects. Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems that impact district telephone services. Lead all telecommunications special projects and serve as liaison for internal and external business partners. Act as primary point of contact for maintenance and new construction of telephone support services for 9,500+ telephone circuits and for contracted providers such as PAETEC, Verizon, SUNCOM, and the Florida State Department of Management Services. Assist in developing department specifications and attend preconstruction and work‑in‑progress meetings at construction and renovation sites. Perform final inspections of new and renovated sites to ensure contractor compliance and verify that existing systems are not damaged. Research, prepare, and present telecommunications projects and system plans to management and senior staff, develop recommendations for new equipment, and assist the Procurement Department with FRP, FRQ, ITQ, and ITB proposals. Interpret schematic and architectural drawings and ensure compliance with established specifications. Test and diagnose complex systems, assisting technicians in troubleshooting and correcting recurring failures. Provide quality assurance on daily work performed by district personnel and contracted services, while developing a comprehensive district training program. Offer technical direction and training to department personnel. Maintain safe, proper, and efficient operation of systems within the assigned department. Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the district’s vision and mission. Perform any other duties as assigned. Experience Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in telecommunications and low voltage repair. One (1) year of accredited college coursework (30 semester hours) may substitute for one (1) year of the experience requirement; substitution may not exceed two (2) years. Certificates / Licenses / Registrations Current Florida Class "E" driver’s license. Language Skills Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; writes routine reports and correspondence; speaks effectively before groups of individuals. Mathematical Skills Calculates figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills Proficient with Microsoft Office. Physical Demands Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, handling, keyboarding, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision. Lifting up to 35 pounds. Reaching activities with both dominant and non‑dominant hand, overhead. Exposure to noise intensity level 4 (loud), extreme temperature, wet/humid conditions, vibration/impact, and work with or near heavy equipment. Other Requirements Position requires traveling to various school sites, work locations, and community organizations throughout the district.
