Advanced Practice Provider Fellow - Psychiatry (Medical Center)

At Houston Methodist, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Post Graduate Fellowship is a twelve‑month program featuring rotations in assigned specialty areas. Fellows will develop assessment and diagnostic skills, medication management, procedures, and other therapies in specialty care. The APP Provider Fellow will provide direct patient care in a variety of team‑based settings with the goal of transitioning to independent practice upon completion of the fellowship. FLSA Status Exempt Qualifications Education Master’s degree or higher from an accredited school of Nursing and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioners program Experience Two years of previous RN practice Licenses and Certifications RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure (Texas Board of Nursing, PSV Compact) – Must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days (if establishing Texas residency) APRN – Acute Care state license Magnet ANCC‑recognized Acute Care practitioner certification BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Instructor (AHA) AP – Prescriptive Authority – Texas Board of Nursing, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (PSV) DEA – Narcotics License (DEA) – within 6 months Knowledge and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English as necessary for essential functions of the job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co‑workers in a customer‑service‑focused manner using positive language principles Advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and interventions in the field of psychiatry Essential Functions People Essential Functions Provides patient care in assigned department by assessing and diagnosing clinical conditions, developing treatment plans and documenting appropriately. Uses therapeutic communication to establish a relationship with patients, families, and the interprofessional health care team to collaborate on the plan of care. Communicates in an active, positive and effective manner to all interprofessional team members and reports pertinent patient care and family data in a comprehensive and unbiased manner, listens and responds to the ideas of others. Service Essential Functions Provides direct patient care services, including performing physical assessments, diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions, prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing and implementing treatment plans in their respective specialty area(s). Advocates on patient/family’s behalf to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns, utilizing appropriate resources. Obtains superior patient satisfaction scores via standard patient satisfaction survey tool. Quality/ Safety Essential Functions Performs assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients in assigned setting, including accurate and timely documentation, intake assessments, treatment planning and discharge planning, as appropriate. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care. Participates in interprofessional team meetings, case discussions, and care planning. Engages in team‑based interdisciplinary care.
