Summary: Functions as a surgical scrub during surgical and endoscopic cases. Works as a member of the surgical team in activities of patient care within scope of assigned duties and clinical expertise.

Responsibilities:

• Competent assistance to the surgeon as a surgical scrub during surgery and endoscopic cases. Able to perform all duties associated with this role.
• Participates in preparing and collecting surgical supplies for surgery.
• Maintains and orders par levels of general and special-order supplies in collaboration with Supply Chain. Helps to review supply inventory for expiration dates.
• Uses and helps to maintain surgery preference cards to ensure all equipment and supplies are available.
• Adheres to strict aseptic technique.
• Arranges surgical instrumentation and equipment in an orderly fashion and able to maintain, operate, and pass instrumentation efficiently during surgery.
• Accurately tracks surgical instrumentation, sponges, and sharps during surgery. Completes surgical counts according to policy.
• Demonstrates competency in use of all surgical and endoscopic equipment.
• Works with surgical team to clean, restock and prepare the OR/Procedure Room for the next case or terminal cleaning.
• Cleans surgical instrumentation manually and with automatic washer when on call. Completes activities for cleaning and high-level disinfection of GI endoscopes.
• Assists with positioning and moving patients as directed by the RN Circulator.

Education

• Required High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED)
• Required Associate's Degree - Must have attended a Surgical Technologist program and must attain certification within one year of hire.
