About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Med Surg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Day/Evening mix Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred Must-Have: - IV experience - Knowledge of drains - Experience with ostomies - Familiarity with wound vacs - Competence with NG tubes - Proficiency in Foley catheters - Experience with Electronic Health Records - Intermediate care background Description: The unit participates in an automatic offer process for candidates. The department consists of 29 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4 during the day and 1:6 at night. Common diagnoses include abdominal surgeries and ear/nose/throat surgeries, as well as complex wounds and general medical cases. RNs are expected to titrate certain medications, including heparin and, infrequently, insulin, diltiazem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin. There are telemetry technicians on the unit, and RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips. The charge nurse takes a smaller patient assignment. Nurse aides are present on the unit, with ratios of 1:8 during the day and 1:14 at night. Available equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, vapotherm, and occasional tracheostomies; however, there are no ventilators. Weekend and holiday requirements include working every other weekend and every other holiday. There is no call requirement or standby duty. Floating to other medical/surgical units may occur if the unit is overstaffed. Scrubs of any color are permitted, and scrubs are not provided. All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility.
