Registered Nurse (Flex) - Operating Room

divh2Perioperative Nurse/h2pIn addition to general nursing, is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the OR and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations./ph3Responsibilities/h3ulliAssesses patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures./liliFunctions in the scrub and or circulating role during operative or other invasive procedures in accordance with scope of practice, credentials, privileges, education, and experience/liliEnsures the operative procedure is being performed on the correct patient and site, side and level by: Reviewing the operative schedule; Reviewing the operative consent; Verifying procedure site and side with patient; Resolving identified discrepancy with surgeon and patient, prior to the patient being taken to the operating room; and participating in the pre-procedure verification, per-incision Time Out and sign out process./liliDevelops an individualized perioperative patient plan of care. Implements the plan of care by: protecting the patient from injury caused by chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources and extraneous objects; performing accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items; performing interventions necessary to ensure that the patients procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level; managing the patients specimens in the appropriate manner; communicating the patients status to the appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care; administering medications safely and correctly; performing interventions to maintain the patients wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels; performing interventions to maintain the status of the patients genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels;/liliProviding education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure;/liliActively involving the patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process./liliDocuments nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly./liliCollaborates effectively with other disciplines as appropriate./liliParticipates in quality review and performance improvement projects./liliUses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members./liliAll other duties as requested./li/ulh3Qualifications/h3pstrongEducation:/strong/ppInternal 1199 SEIU:/pulliGraduate of accredited nursing program(s)./liliBachelors Degree in Nursing preferred./li/ulpNon 1199 SEIU Candidates:/pulliBachelors Degree in Nursing./liliMasters Degree in Nursing, preferred./li/ulpstrongExperience:/strong/pulliMinimum two (2) years operating room experience./li/ulpstrongKnowledge and Skills:/strong/pulliCritical thinking, math, and computer skills./liliWorks as a team player./liliDemonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions./liliExcellent oral and communication skills./liliDecision making and problem solving./liliAble to read, write, see and hear English./li/ulpstrongLicenses, Certifications:/strong/pulliCurrent NY State RN License required./liliBasic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, required./liliAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association, required./liliPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association, required./liliCertified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification, preferred./li/ulpstrongPhysical Requirements:/strong/pulliPhysically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day./liliPosition will be required to stoop, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 35 pounds for routine performance of essential functions./liliAn individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor environmental conditions, Blood borne pathogens, Blood and body fluids, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), communicable diseases, chemical hazards, radiation, and repetitive motions./liliFull range of body motion, able to lift up to 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist lifting and moving patients./liliManual and finger dexterity, as well as hand and eye coordination./liliCorrected vision and hearing to within normal range./liliFrequently sitting at desk working on computer./liliAbility to flex working hours./li/ulpThe salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and can be modified in the future.
