Summary

COMC is looking for a Robotics Technician to support the assembly, testing, maintenance, and operation of robotic and automated equipment used in COMC’s logistics and production processes. Working closely with Robotics Engineers, senior technicians, and operations teams, the Robotics Technician helps assemble and deploy robotic systems, performs routine maintenance, troubleshoots equipment issues, and supports hardware upgrades and improvements. This is a hands-on position suited for someone who is mechanically inclined, has a basic understanding of electrical systems, enjoys working with tools and equipment, and is interested in learning robotics and automation. The ideal candidate is a practical problem solver who can follow technical instructions carefully while developing the skills needed to independently troubleshoot and maintain automated equipment.

Responsibilities/Duties

• Assemble and install robotic, mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical components.
• Assist Robotics Engineers and senior technicians with the deployment and testing of automated equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and repairs on production equipment.
• Follow assembly instructions, wiring diagrams, checklists, standard operating procedures, and test procedures.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues.
• Assist with diagnosing issues involving sensors, motors, actuators, wiring, connectors, and other automation components.
• Use basic diagnostic tools such as multimeters and hand tools.
• Assist with machine calibration and verification procedures.
• Support testing of new hardware, components, and machine modifications.
• Assist with building and modifying fixtures, jigs, and prototypes.
• Document equipment issues, repairs, and completed work.
• Maintain organized tools, components, and replacement parts.
• Escalate complex or recurring equipment issues to Robotics Engineers or senior technicians.
• Follow all safety procedures when working with electrical, mechanical, and automated equipment.
• Work with operations personnel to address equipment issues and minimize production downtime.

 

Skills & Qualifications

• Hands-on experience working with mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical systems through work, school, personal projects, or similar experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and a basic understanding of electrical systems, including wiring, connectors, sensors, motors, and power supplies.
• Comfortable using basic hand tools.
• Ability to follow detailed assembly instructions, checklists, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to learn new technical systems and procedures.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating with engineers and technicians.
• Comfortable working in a hands-on, on-site production environment.
• Ability to safely handle and work around automated machinery.
• Strong work ethic with a high level of attention to detail and a results-driven mindset.
• Ability to manage time-sensitive tasks, particularly in production line support and equipment management.

Preferred Qualifications (a plus, not required):

• Experience with robotics, automation, mechatronics, manufacturing equipment, or production machinery.
• Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, motor controllers, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with stepper motors, servo motors, sensors, cameras, or actuators.
• Basic experience with wiring, crimping, soldering, or cable management.
• Experience using a multimeter or other basic electrical diagnostic equipment.
• Experience with 3D printing, prototyping, or fabrication.
• Basic programming or scripting experience.
• Interest in robotics, automation, and emerging technologies.

Education & Experience

• No specific degree required — hands-on experience gained through work, school, personal projects, or similar experience is accepted.
• Technical degree, associate degree, trade certification, or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.

  Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Perform activities such as standing, walking, bending, and using hand and power tools for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Requires good manual dexterity and coordination to work with small components, tools, and equipment.
• Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information with teammates, engineers, and operations personnel.
• Operates in a professional office and manufacturing/production environment.
• Requires consistent attention to safety procedures to mitigate hazards when working with mechanical, electrical, and automated equipment.
