Groomer Tech/Bather Job Description

My Pretty Puppy Grooming & Dog Wash works in partnership with professional groomers and bathers to provide high-quality grooming services. My Pretty Puppy Grooming LLC”) Our goal is to offer every pet a clean, safe, and pleasant grooming experience in a facility that uses all-natural bathing products and modern efficient equipment and supplies. We expect our staff to offer the best customer service to both dogs and their owners.

Groomers and Bathers associated with My Pretty Puppy are expected to provide consistently high-quality bathing and grooming services, as their work reflects positively on our facility, management, and reputation.

Bathing and grooming pets require sufficient physical strength, mobility, and stamina to lift and move heavy pets and objects. It also requires dexterity and confidence to handle, bathe, and groom pets that may be scared or aggressive, and the ability to watch them for signs of distress or disease.

The cleanliness and safety of the dogs entrusted to our care is everyone’s responsibility.

When Bathing a Dog:

·         Check the board to see which dog is next to the bath.

·         Review EVERY pet’s card for warnings, specific instructions, and special shampoos before bathing.

·         Bath each pet thoroughly, paying special attention to the face, feet, and sanitary areas.

·         Check the anal glands on all dogs and express if necessary. Ask for help if needed.

·         Remove any eye crust using a flea comb AFTER allowing it to soak.

·         Use degreasing shampoo on ears of pets with excessive grease/oil.

·         Towel dry pets as much as possible using cotton towels.

·         Let Groomers know of ANY abnormalities noticed on the pet (e.g., scab, fleas, ticks, sores, anal gland issues) and note this on the card.

·         Dry pets with a high-velocity dryer on a comfortable setting for the pet. STOP at signs of stress or fearful pets.

·         For pets too fearful of the high-velocity dryer around their face, finish drying them in a kennel dryer for no more than 30 minutes before evaluating how damp the dog is.

·         Clip or grind nails.

·         Clean ears using cleaning solution and cotton pads.

·         Place the dog back in the kennel.

·         Check off on the board.

When De-shedding a Dog:

De-shedding is the removal of a dog's loose undercoat hair. This helps to keep the dog comfortable and support a healthy coat and skin while reducing hair on furniture and clothes.

·         Check the board to see which dog is next to the bath.

·         Review EVERY pet’s card for warnings, specific instructions, and special shampoos before bathing.

·         Brush out as much hair as possible using ZoomGroom or a de-shed tool.

·         Blow out the coat before bathing if needed.

·         Bathe each pet thoroughly using specialized de-shedding shampoo and conditioner, paying special attention to high-shedding areas such as the chest, neck, hind legs, and pants.

·         Check anal glands on all dogs and express if necessary. Ask for help if needed.

·         Towel dry pets as much as possible using cotton towels.

·         Notify Groomers of ANY abnormalities noticed on the pet (e.g., scab, fleas, ticks, sores, anal gland issues) and note this on the card.

·         Dry pets with a high-velocity dryer on HIGH setting to blow out loose hair. STOP at signs of stress or fearful pets.

·         Brush out the coat with de-shed tools, being careful not to brush burn the dog’s skin.

·         Clip or grind nails.

·         Clean ears using cleaning solution and cotton pads.

·         Spray with cologne (unless otherwise specified) and apply bandana or bows.

·         Place the dog back in the kennel.

·         Check off on the board.

·         Text the client that the dog is ready to pick up and notify the front desk to call the client.

Cleaning Responsibilities (teamwork):

·         Disinfect the tub when finished (including the front and sides).

·         Clean the mat and hang it on the tub.

·         Fill shampoo and conditioner tanks.

·         Wash, dry, and fold laundry.

·         Vacuum and clean kennel dryers (inside and out).

·         Clean and disinfect any kennels used by pets.

·         Mop and squeeze the floor (BEHIND and UNDER kennel dryers).

·         Empty garbage and replace liners.

·         Empty bathroom garbage.

·         Clean all tools.

Saturdays:

·         Wipe down all gallons of shampoo and rinse shelves.

·         Clean the towel rack.

·         Clean the dryer cabinet.

·         Wipe down walls.

·         Pick everything off the floor for mopping.
