Manager, Accounting

OverviewThe Accounting Manager position is part of the AmTrust Specialty Risk -US team. The Accounting manager position will be responsible for assisting in the accounting for Specialty Risk legal entities, including but not limited to detailed maintenance of accounting records and related controls, recording journal entries, account analysis and reconciliations, ensuring reported results comply with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”) and assisting in the preparation of GAAP and Regulatory financial statements for multiple entities as needed.ResponsibilitiesManage/Perform routine financial close activities such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial package preparationManage the preparation and completion of annual GAAP financial statements we file with the state.Review/Perform quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations, cash reconciliations, and investigate unusual itemsEnsure the accurate and timely recording and reconciliation of all intercompany activity by researching and resolving differences with other entitiesAnalysis of key data and performance metrics to provide thoughtful action plans in alignment with the company mission and execution of goalsAssist with other ad hoc responsibilities including participation in special projects, such as system implementation and/or enhancements, business integration, internal controls, and ad hoc analysesLead & collaborate with teams to develop and oversee implementation of improved workflow integration, efficiencies, and proactive problem solving.Providing leadership, guidance, reinforcement and accountability among teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations and quality output at or above company standards. Provide support to the corporate team, as necessaryQualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; CPA preferred7+ years of experienceStrong knowledge and application of US GAAP, and internal controlsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite application especially ExcelExperience with Enterprise Resource Planning Software (Oracle) and Hyperion (HFM) or FCCS a plusAbility to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlinesAbility to work independently, identify problems and propose viable solutionsMust be flexible and have demonstrated skills to work effectively in a team-oriented environment; including ongoing discussions with other departments and being the finance representative.Strong initiative, problem solving, and interpersonal skills, plus an orientation toward continuous improvement are requiredTechnical accounting knowledge to report on US GAAP and regulatory basisStrong communication, analytical, organizational and time management skillsPreferred:Public Accounting ExperienceWarranty insurance and/or strong technical insurance accounting experience with good understanding of insurance operationsThis job description is designed to provide a general overview of the requirements of the job and does not entail a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that will be required in this position.
