Patient Registration Specialist Pay Range: $25.00 - $31.88 SEARHC is a non‑profit health consortium that serves the health interests of the residents of Southeast Alaska. Key Responsibilities Manage scheduling resources for patient appointments. Manage communication tools for patient scheduling requests by patients and care teams. Manage the pre‑registration review process for insurance verification for upcoming appointments. Manage follow‑up appointment requests. Retrieve payment collection for services, flat‑rate services, co‑pay or up‑front collections. Collect documentation required for registration compliance and maintain timeliness. Scan registration documents into the electronic health record. Review and assign insurance tiers for proper payor assignment. Validate insurance eligibility and pre‑authorization requirements. Communicate with peers, patients and care teams through multiple channels for appointment requests and patient‑initiated outreach. Create new patient profiles in the electronic health record with accurate demographic information and identification collection. Manage multiple worklists, including New Patient Registration Worklist. Schedule and register patients across disciplines: Primary Care, Behavioral Health, Optometry, Rehabilitation, Radiology, Laboratory, and others. Cross‑train for assigned coverage as a PRS. Coordinate patient sign‑up in the MySEARHC patient portal. Enact SEARHC’s 7 Standards of Service Excellence and provide exceptional customer service. Work well with peers, patients, and leadership. Participate in departmental improvement efforts, maintain a clean and safe environment, and maintain compliance with annual competencies. Identify community resources, foster partnerships, and utilize resources effectively. Refer patients without insurance coverage to a Financial Counselor for resolution. Refer patients to the Patient Health Benefits team for screening/enrollment in available and qualified insurance resources. Spend approximately 80% of the time on registration and insurance verification work and 20% on scheduling request communication; other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience High school diploma preferred (advanced degree preferred). Basic Life Support certification preferred. One year of experience in healthcare, behavioral health, dental, customer service, or a relevant administrative or office setting. Internal candidates with at least one year as a Patient Registration Specialist trainee or a similar role at SEARHC considered qualified. Knowledge of SEARHC services, other tribal health organizations in Alaska, and community resources. Customer service principles and general front‑end revenue cycle knowledge. Attention to detail and quality data input; proficiency with computers. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. De‑escalation, critical thinking, and prioritization skills. Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced office with interruptions. Self‑starter, willingness to learn, and ability to work independently. Time‑management, organizational, and customer‑service abilities. Flexibility to work required hours with limited unplanned absences. Proficiency in EHR systems.
