This is a tipped, hourly role. Compensation is based on experience. Hourly positions are not immediately eligible for health benefits or paid time off.

What Will Be Expected of You

Depending on the role, team members may be expected to:

For kitchen-related responsibilities, food safety certification such as ServSafe may be preferred or required depending on the position.

Position Summary

As a Deli Cook, I play a hybrid front-of-house and back-of-house role supporting the daily operations of Mules Ear Bakery. I prepare made-to-order bakery and deli items to company standards, maintain a clean and organized workstation, and interact directly with guests to help create a warm, efficient, and memorable experience.

This is a tipped role that works within the front-of-house team while also executing food production. I bring urgency, hospitality, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to quality, cleanliness, and team success.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Experience and Hospitality

  • As a Deli Cook at Mules Ear Bakery, I deliver warm, genuine, and attentive hospitality to every guest.
  • I create an experience that feels welcoming, organized, and enjoyable from arrival through departure.
  • I communicate clearly and professionally with guests and teammates at all times.
  • I support a service environment built on timing, teamwork, and attention to detail.
  • I represent Almont, Mules Ear Bakery, and Elk Ave Hospitality with professionalism and pride.

Made-to-Order Food Preparation

  • I prepare made-to-order bakery, deli, and counter items according to company standards for quality, consistency, and presentation.
  • I execute prep, cooking, assembling, heating, garnishing, and plating responsibilities with accuracy and urgency.
  • I maintain a strong understanding of recipes, specs, and product expectations.
  • I ensure my station is organized, stocked, and service-ready throughout each shift.
  • I take pride in delivering food that reflects the standards of the brand.

Counter Service, Bakery, and Market Support

  • I support guest-facing service by assisting guests with menu items, bakery offerings, and market products.
  • I help maintain the flow of service between the deli, bakery, and market environment.
  • I support product presentation, stocking, cleanliness, and readiness across guest-facing spaces.
  • I answer questions clearly and help guests feel comfortable and well cared for.
  • I stay aware of guest needs and help create a seamless experience across multiple touchpoints of the operation.

Organization, Cleanliness, and Food Safety

  • I maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area throughout each shift.
  • I follow all food safety, sanitation, storage, labeling, and rotation procedures.
  • I ensure ingredients, tools, packaging, and equipment are properly handled, maintained, and stored.
  • I help uphold health department standards and company expectations in all food-related and guest-facing work areas.
  • I support a culture of pride, cleanliness, and operational discipline throughout the bakery and market.

Teamwork and Professionalism

  • I work closely with managers and teammates to support a strong service culture.
  • I communicate clearly, respectfully, and efficiently throughout each shift.
  • I maintain professionalism, composure, and accountability during high-volume periods.
  • I step in to support the team wherever needed to ensure successful execution.
  • I contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment rooted in the companys core values.

Qualifications

  • Previous hospitality, deli, bakery, kitchen, or guest service experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Professional demeanor and commitment to strong guest service
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain composure and urgency in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and contribute to a team-focused culture

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in deli, sandwich, bakery, prep, or counter-service environments preferred
  • Experience preparing made-to-order food items is a plus
  • Strong guest service instincts and a genuine interest in hospitality
  • Ability to multitask, stay organized, and maintain standards during busy shifts
  • Comfort learning recipes, service standards, products, and company systems
  • Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling is a plus
  • Food safety certification such as ServSafe is preferred

Physical and Position Requirements

  • Must be able to stand and move continuously for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to walk, bend, reach, stoop, and carry throughout each shift
  • Must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment
  • Must be capable of adjusting to changes in pace, priorities, and business volume
  • Must be able to work mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed in a seasonal hospitality environment
  • Must be able to lift and carry food products, bakery items, retail products, or service items as needed for the role

Important Position Information

This is a tipped, hourly, non-exempt hybrid front-of-house and back-of-house role that supports made-to-order food execution while remaining guest-facing and part of the tip pool. Compensation is based on experience. Hourly positions are not immediately eligible for health benefits or paid time off.
