POSITION PURPOSE

As a Co-occurring Therapist will be responsible for providing assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment to individuals dealing with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The services are performed in accordance with the patient’s individualized treatment plan using evidence-based practices.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITION

1. Assessing the counseling needs of the clients.
2. Assessing clients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tools, and diagnosing clients for substance abuse disorder using the DSM-IV TR.
3. Determining the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Patient Placement Criteria
4. Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients' mental health and substance use issues, as well as any other relevant factors affecting their well-being.
5. Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, incorporating evidence-based interventions and therapeutic modalities to address co-occurring disorders.
6. Provide individual and group therapy sessions using a client-centered approach to facilitate healing and promote positive behavioral changes.
7. Monitor clients' progress throughout the course of treatment, regularly reviewing and adjusting treatment plans as needed to ensure effectiveness.
8. Collaborate with other members of the treatment team, including psychiatrists, case managers, and support staff, to coordinate care and provide integrated services.
9. Offer education and support to clients and their families, helping them understand the nature of co-occurring disorders and empowering them to actively participate in the recovery process.
10. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all client interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
11. Stay abreast of developments in the field of co-occurring disorders, participating in ongoing training and professional development activities to enhance clinical knowledge and skills. Obtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode.
12. Reviewing and, where necessary, revising the client treatment plan to address ongoing problems.
13. Developing a client discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.
14. Contact, case consultation if necessary, and coordination with referral sources.
15. Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned clients.
16. Provide active case consultation.
17. Utilize knowledge and skills to provide group psychotherapy, meeting the patient’s treatment needs and requirements.
18. Document in the patient’s chart on a regular basis and complete patient caseload in timely manner.
19. Participate as a team member in all treatment team meetings and provides input regarding patients’ needs and requirements.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

1. EDUCATION: At least a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology or Addiction Studies or Human Services.
2. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years’ experience in social work or Behavioral Health setting and a minimum of one year of experience in a substance abuse partial hospitalization program or other mental health setting.
3. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed or Interim License LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCADC, CADC,
4. SKILLS/ABILITIES: 
5. Ability to work as a team member and have management, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to work under stressful conditions and be flexible in relation to department needs.
7. Knowledge of State & Federal Standards pertaining to counseling. 
8. Demonstrates Proficiency in Verbal & Written, Communication Skills.
9. AGE SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS SERVED/RESPONSIBILITY: Adults
10. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Familiar with community resources
11. EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
