Nurse Extern General Medicine PRN

Mission Health, a comprehensive healthcare provider based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a Nurse Extern General Medicine PRN to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our General Medicine unit. In this role, you will work under the supervision and delegation of Registered Nurses and the interprofessional care team to provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care to adult medical-surgical patients in a fast-paced acute care environment. As a Nurse Extern, you will build on your nursing education by performing basic patient care activities, such as obtaining vital signs, assisting with hygiene and mobility, monitoring intake and output, and supporting patients with activities of daily living. You will collaborate closely with RNs to observe assessments, participate in care planning, reinforce patient education, and accurately document care in the electronic health record according to Mission Health standards and regulatory requirements. This PRN position offers exposure to a broad range of general medicine diagnoses, including chronic disease management, acute exacerbations, and complex comorbidities, allowing you to strengthen your clinical judgment, time management, and prioritization skills while working side by side with experienced nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals. You will practice infection prevention, patient safety, and fall reduction measures, assist with specimen collection and basic procedures within your scope, and promptly report changes in patient condition to the RN or provider.
